I have finally narrowed the components i am considering to these three:

1 Alpine Type R 6.5 Components (SPR-17S) Retail $280
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=SPR-17S

2. Polk MOMO Components (MMC6500) Retail $350
http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/speakers/6-1-2/mmc6500/

3. Rockford Fosgate 6.5 Components (T162S) Retail $400
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=3&series_id=3 4&family_id=29&item_id=91973&locale=en_US&p_status=

They are being put in a 2002 Eclipse GT replacing the factory Infinity Components. so which one of these do you guys think is the best set? im looking for good mid-bass response and great quality. PLEASE do not recommend CDT or Rainbow or whatever... I'm not trying to sound mean but i want one of the three that i mentioned!! THANKS!!!

I have never been impressed by any polk or RF speakers.

Alpine speakers are good for the price.

Of course you could get a REALLY nice set of HDs from CDT with that budget you have, that would beat all of those........ oops

HAHAHA!! very funny M.S. My Problem is that I have never heard CDT's and I also prefer brand names (for ego! LOL) Seriously, The reason I choose these 3 is because they can all be had for a lot less than their retail price. CDT's arent even cheap on EBAY! So you say Alpine first, then what? Polk 2nd or 3rd? Rockford 2nd or 3rd? THANKS MS!!

screw alpine and rockford...sry....but rockford just wont cut it...and for alpine i'd only look at the type x. the polk has just been revised...if anything get the new momo's..now called MM i think.

CDT can be had for a lot less than retail price as well..just gotta know where to look ;) (hint: not eBay). regardless....you're really hurting yourself by not looking at companies that arent mainstream. not just for CDT, but for ALL of the non-mainstream brands that put out MUCH better components than the mainstream companies. let your speakers do the talking...you can have your ego about it all you want. but the point is...speakers from non-mainstream companies are gonna sound a good amount better than the mainstream ones...do you really want to waste your money?

Its funny how i wanted to discuss the three and SOMEHOW I end up at CDT. "The powers that be" must be trying to tell me something..
So EXIGE, where can the CDT's be found at a good price?

I had some 2005 MMC6500's, they were alright speakers. Midbass was decent but the tweeter could have been better.I was feeding them 125w via an older MTX amp and they didn't perform the way I would have expected.

Honestly, I have just a plug in pair of Focal coaxials currently and they sound better IMO. Although I did pay more for these then the Polks a couple of years ago.

MS owns a set of HD line CDT's, he has firsthand knowledge, and Exige is a CDT dealer, so he has firsthand knowledge and good prices.

To anyone in the know, CDT is regarded much higher than any of the 3 you recommended. I plan on getting some HD's here shortly for my next set of comps.

Govmint: Thanks for your "review" of the Polk's. Thats what I was hoping to get from this thread.

MS: I know you said that the CDT's are better than the three i mentioned but just to make sure: have you heard all the other three?

Exige: if you can, post or pm me about where i can get some good prices on the CDT's. I need to decide what to do witgin the next four days or i wont have time to install the stuff until mid-march!! BTW, can you explain to me CDT's different lines? their website is SOOO disorganized...

gustavo, MS brought up CDT...i was making a follow-up point about it. there's a specific reason that I said the following...and if you think that this implies CDT only then you're somehow not reading it right...this quote implies ALLLLLLLLLL non-mainstream brands.

"not just for CDT, but for ALL of the non-mainstream brands that put out MUCH better components than the mainstream companies. let your speakers do the talking...you can have your ego about it all you want. but the point is...speakers from non-mainstream companies are gonna sound a good amount better than the mainstream ones...do you really want to waste your money?"

here's a list of some brands that are not mainstream that are better for the money...this is not all...just simply all i could think of at this time. my point is....i'm not referring to just CDT, i'm telling you there's many great brands out there. i was simply following up from what MS had been talking about. i tried to make that clear.

DLS
Diamond
Rainbow
Focal
Hertz
Image Dynamics
OZ
Zapco

I have not heard those exact speakers, but I have never been impressed by anything from polk or RF.

I have heard several alpines........ they are your best bet as far as mainstream stuff goes. Get the type Xs if you can though, they are above the type Rs. Not that the Rs are bad though.

All of the brands exige listed there make speakers far higher quality than mainstream brands.

As far a good prices on CDTs, we have a few dealers on this forum.

honestly i dont want to be rude but to not want mainstream brands is just stupid. if their is something that preforms better but doesnt say alpine or jl on it and cost the same its dumb not to get it. exige mentioned some nice choices.

to say you want a main stream brand for bragging purposes is even worse, its more "bragging power" to have something awesome that no one has heard of if you ask me.

CDT HD's on eBay from the CDTStore for $300 or best offer. B-Stock, they have "Paint Blemishes."
Sounds like a good deal lol.
They had some B-stock Euro's, highest line but didn't have the "gold" upgrade I believe, on their eBay store too. Best offer I got on them was $435, shipping is always free with them, and that was before I made a counteroffer. Saw one guy get those for $400

they're wonderful :-)

however i think it's obvious the OP doesnt want this to be a CDT filled thread so lets not bombard it with CDT stuff. besides..guys...everyone's are different. he might like a real bright sound..who knows...but let the OP keep all his options open.

Exige: you sound like your mad or something. Im not trying to misquote you... Im just trying to get opinions from you guys. And yes, I didnt want the thread to become a CDT "Take-over"! LOL But i guess that when speakers are that good, you cant help but speak about them!

Mat Dope: I see what you mean from your post and I hadnt thought about it like that before. But, my main thing is that i havent heard any CDT stuff before...

Mark: THANKS A LOT for the wesbite link!!! :-) I was on ebay and somehow i missed it!

EVERYONE, if you guys can, Please post in here about your opinions of the three component sets i wrote about in the first post. Maybe rate them 1,2,3, or something. THAT WOULD BE GREAT!! THANKS

you have them listed in order that i would buy them. alpine type r arnt a bad set. actually supprised me. they are pretty power hungry so throw them at least 100rms.

i'm not mad at all lol. i dono where that thought came from? sry if it came off that way? i was simply trying to get other manufacturers into the discussion because it was very apparent that a "CDT takeover" was not what you were looking for lol.
