New member Username: Gustavocordero777Orlando, FL USA Post Number: 8 Registered: Dec-07 | Hey guys. I am looking for some 6 1/2 components for my 2002 eclipse spyder. right now, my choice is the Alpine Type R's. I have not purchased anything yet. I choose these b/c i have been told that they have excellent mid-bass response and i would like at least some bass until i do my subs in the future. Any opinions? Do you guys have any other speakers you would like to recommend that have what im looking for (mid-bass)? the maximum i would like to spend is $400.00 |

Not that alpine's are bad, but they're not great either. CDT HD-62 ^^^^^ get those As far as midbass response goes, that is 90% dependent on the installation and about 10% on the speaker. |

What installation factors contribute to the midbass response?? The alpine's are $250.00 so i'd be willing to spend a bit more for the right ones... |

It's the only mainstream brand comp set I would even think of running (Besides Polk SR's). You'll find much better choices in the non-mainstream sector though. Installation factors for midbass response really comes down to door deadening and proper mounting (baffle with non-hardening modeling clay). |

New member Username: Gustavocordero777Orlando, FL USA Post Number: 10 Registered: Dec-07 | Exige: I have NEVER heard anyone say that baffles improve bass response... Everyone says they DECREASE bass. MS: Im very picky and the CDT website looks like a complete disaster... everything is unorganized and just "thrown out there", and they dont have a feature to compare there own speakers to one another. all in all, since i never heard them and all ive seen is their website, i cant say i would buy from them. Of course, there crappy website does not mean crappy speakers but thats all i have to see... |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5436 Registered: Jul-06 | On that budget the CDT HD are the best you can get for the money. I know that because I searched for months for the best speakers that I could get, my budget also was ~$400 max, and those sounded the best. Not that alpines are bad, but my HD-52s will own them........ |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5437 Registered: Jul-06 | BTW good midbass depends on the speakers having a good enclosure...... it's very hard to completely seal a door from the cabin, which is why they don't sound as good usually when people just stick them in the doors. Reinforced fiberglass pods or better yet a real MDF enclosure makes the difference........ example: That's my "garage custom" job of putting components in a truck that didn't have factory speakers in the doors. They were 4x6s in the dash, absolutely terrible. |
Bronze Member Username: ExigePost Number: 53 Registered: Nov-07 | whoa Gustavo...calm down man? listen...I didn't say the baffle ALONE improves bass response...I said proper installation does. Jesus. baffles can help to create a sealed enclosure. witness here...the pictures are better than any of my words: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95925 if i meant that a baffle is the only factor that increased midbass response, then i would have said...just use a baffle. the idea is that you can use a baffle to raise the speaker from the panel..from there the clay creates a seal in all airgaps around and underneath the baffle. if you use plexiglass over the rest of the openings in the door...you can create an enclosed and sealed area. now...enough of all caps and getting points across. I agree with you that CDT's site is a mess. I could almost pay the guys to clean it up and make it a proper site. It would probably get the company quite a bit more sales. Now because of this, I've tried to memorize where everything is on that site. If you need help with finding anything, let me know and I can probably dig it up for you. Never judge a book by its cover. |

Bronze Member Username: Gustavocordero777Orlando, FL USA Post Number: 11 Registered: Dec-07 | Mat Dope: Im in west orlando. On colonial. And like i said, i want to stick with mainstream brands... Exige: sorry about the CAPS. I was just trying to add some emphasis!! Overall: the only viable suggestions have been the Alpine Type-X's or the Boston Acoustic Pro 60's. Anyone else have any opinions? |
Bronze Member Username: Gustavocordero777Orlando, FL USA Post Number: 12 Registered: Dec-07 | What do you guys think about these components? they seem to be able to handle 200 watts rms... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2786_Audiobahn+ACIS62.html |
Silver Member Username: Drant19DUB-C, TX Post Number: 184 Registered: Aug-07 | NOOOOO!!! no audiobahn. alpine and audiobahn are on totally differnt levels. alpine>audiobahn if you must stick with mainstream then i say go for the type-x's |
Bronze Member Username: Gustavocordero777Orlando, FL USA Post Number: 13 Registered: Dec-07 | i know that alpine>>>>>>audiobahn. How do the type-r's compare to the type-x's??? what are there differences and how do they compare in terms of bass response? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5458 Registered: Jul-06 | " You can lead the horse to water but that doesn't mean it's smart enough to drink it! " True that....... as most of us know underground > mainstream by a lot |
Silver Member Username: Drant19DUB-C, TX Post Number: 189 Registered: Aug-07 | i have had no experience with the type-r or type-x comps. so i have no info for you on that. but $400 is a good budget that will buy you better comps than alpine. where will you be buying these speakers at? just wondering.. |
Bronze Member Username: ExigePost Number: 54 Registered: Nov-07 | hey..i will say type x is a nice set of comps. i'm a CDT dealer and i have CDT in my car...but just because i like CDT does not mean gustavo's ears are like mine or anyone else's here....and it does not mean that i can't give credit to other comp sets that are real nice as well. the alpine type x set is a real solid choice, and its definitely worth the extra money over type r's since gustavo can afford it. if he wants to stick mainstream, type x is a good way to go.} |
Gold Member Username: AdddisorderPalm Beach, Florida Post Number: 5772 Registered: Jan-06 | im in hunters creek, little before osceola parkway in south orlando. right where 417 and OBT cross. and yup type x over the Rs and throw them some nice power. |
