Port tuning question

I went to a local shop today and they had 1 box for a 15" with a port on the side. I asked what it was tuned to and the guy said he thought it was around 48Hz????? Isn't that a little high?

Then I asked what it would cost ($200, I'll be building my own) for them to make me a similar box tuned to 32Hz and he said it depends on the sub, is this true? the way I understood it was tuning depends on the box alone. Not too sure if I trust this shop, every sub they had was single voice coil and memphis was their top of the line brand...

48 hz tuning is pretty high unless you are going for competitions.

Diffrent subs can take up more or less room in the box changing the tuning.
