Hey, I know you both are CDT dealers so I've got a question:

I have CDT HD-52 components, and I'm upgrading to a 250w X 2 amp. I've seen people put 200w each on these speakers, but I'm wondering how much is the limit?

Thanks..... (alteraudio you may remember me I bought the speakers from you a while ago)

which tweeter and crossover are you using? normally 180-200w is the most i'd say you can safely go with for that set. just make sure to use them responsively. if you can hear something wrong, turn it down.

They have the DRT-25 tweeter and SatNet 480 crossover.

I figured ~200w was pretty much the maximum since I haven't seen anyone run more than that........

with that crossover i'd be a bit gentler...say 175 max. 560 can handle more power than the 480.

Ok thanks. How much do you think they could take with the 560? I may have to upgrade.........

200w would be about right. The 560's aren't the weak link...I've got about 230-240 going to mine right now with no issues. It's just that the HD-5 driver isn't built to handle as much as say an M6. I've got an M6 and DRT-26 with 560i's....they could probably take more than 240...I'd bet 275 based on how they're performing right now.

With the 480 though...the crossover becomes the weak link as compared to the driver being the weak link.

You would also benefit from a lower crossover point with the 560i....it gives that set a better sound.

So you'd recommend the 560i crossover? I didn't realize it made the components sound better......

I haven't seen alteraudio here for a while so I may be interested in buying some 560is from you........ could you PM me with a price on those. Thanks.

One more thing. Would the braxial be better than the seperate system? I was liking the idea for the ease of it.

It depends....where were you planning on mounting the tweeter otherwise? Typically stock locations are not the best way to go. You'll have to do some experimenting with the tweeter location to decide what works best for your car's individual acoustic environment. There is no surefire way for each car.

Well I was going to build a 5.25 wood template out of MDF to go over the 5x7 hole. Then I would have just put the tweeter next to the speaker in the same template.

I don't like the sound of the tweeter being to far from the speaker. Doesn't match up well for me.

Had it in my Bronco and didn't like it as much as my last vehicle were it was about 6" away from the speaker and above it.

Usually having the tweeter closer to the midrange is better. Problem is, the best place for the tweeter is usually in the upper part of the door. You don't want it too low or it sounds like the audio is coming from the floor.

But if your midrange has to be in the bottom of the door, having the tweeter up higher is often better even though it's farther away.
