i need help here, i have bought a deck. its a Sony CDX L490X. i have a 1991 nissan pulsar. i removed the old deck by just cutting off the wires. the wires from the car are coloured: BROWN, RED, YELLOW, BLACK, BLACK+WHITE, BLACK+WHITE,BLACK+PURPLE. i am very confused to which wire goes with which wire on my new deck... for some reason, the sound is very weird and echoey..Also, whenever i on my ignition, the deck will power on, and eject the cd!! please help. this is what ive done: i connected yellow, red (from sony) to the Brown. White+Black(sony) to black+purple. white(sony) to black+white. grey+black(sony) to black+white. grey(sony) to yellow.
the sound is pretty stuffed up... but i tried connecting a speaker directly to the sony's grey and grey+black wires and the sound is GOOD!
so which means i am doing something wrong about the wiring,...please help, ive searched many websites trying to find wiring diargrams for my car.
ok, i finally got it right, everything works ok now!
i didnt match up the colours properly...i wanted to do it myself, because firstly, im a uni student, and only working casual shifts, thus...cant really afford to spend few hundred bucks for installation...
the thing is colors don't match up. you need to get the color codes for your specific make/model/year of car, and the color codes for the head unit, then put the right wires together. you don't match red to red, blue to blue, etc.
that's how ya blow things up

I just hooked up my system And it sounds good except when i i really turn up the deck i get a crackle sound from the 10m inch kenwwod i have. This mostly occurs from burned cds. I am running a 600w kenwood amp with 8 gauge wire from battery an I have 16 gauge speaker wire from amp to the my 600w kenwood 10. What is causing the destortion

jason- you're going to either have to get the radio installed professionally or get a multimeter from radio shack. you need to test the wires and connect them after you know what they are. yellow- constant 12v red - switched 12v (12v when ignition is on and 0 when key is removed. Black - ground Blue - power antannae blue/white - amp turn-on white and white black - front left speaker + and - Gray and gray/black - front right speaker Purple and purple black = rear right speaker green and green/black = rear left speaker
those are the essential wires from the sony deck.

pete i really don't understand what you ment by yellow-constant 12v. do u mean that yellow should be connect to yellow and red connect to red?
flex, if you get the proper wiring harness for your car it will be colour coded. $10 well worth it.
