Filling the tubes of a hifi-rack

I just read on a german hifi-forum that it is recommended to fill the steel-tubes of a hifi-rack if such a rack will permit it. I read about good results with natural sand... Will it improve the sound resonance-wise? My rack says that it permits the filling of the 3 steel-tubes...see pic.

It's very dense stuff, and very, very dry in the bag (no moisture). Presuming your getting fibration of some sort now, things should generally tidy up. To what degree is dependant on a number of variables. Cool looking stand.

Don't fill them completely. See if the change in sound is the way you want it to go. If so go up to half way or just beyond the first component on the rack. Listen again. If the change remains to your taste continue. It's just that most of the time I find that you can overdo it with deadness on a rack. I'm not sure why. Perhaps the manufacturers use something a bit lively when listening to their prototypes. See how you get on, but don't be surprised if you don't fill it up completely. Regards, Frank.

You are a nice advisor. Too late though, LOL. I filled all 3 to the brim with bird-sand... The sound is NOT at all dead. Even a bit tighter, on the point. At higher peaks especially so. The whole rack is now much stronger and steadier. Quite happy for the moment...LOL

Actually, after my listening session yesterday evening, I realized your point pretty deep. Something of the freshness, livelyness and musicality went lost...it sounded kind a dull. Like coated.... So I followed your advice and filled them up to a third. Much better.
