New member Username: GolamPost Number: 2 Registered: Aug-06 | Guys please take my questions kindly. how does the DVB PCI card works? Does it require any internet access like nfusion? What kind of software do I need? I would appreciate if someone kind enough to answer my questions or direct me to a site with information. Thank you all. |

Gold Member Username: NydasPost Number: 6170 Registered: Jun-06 | golam chow: If you understand internal cards for computers, you will understand DVB Cards as well. There was need for computer ourput to be visible and they developed video cards and later faster video cards (AGP cards). There was a need for a Parallel port and a couple of serial ports and there was a card for doing this 2 serial and one parallel port and somebody threw in a game port Somebody said why not a TV card, so they developed a TV card that took the signals from the antenna and after processing they put out a TV signal for any video monitor to display TV. They did th esame thing to DVB (Direct Video broadcast) from satellites, and as far as the FTA signals are concerned, you have TV. Somebody said, that the computer is powerful enough to decode Nagravision, so they developed a decoding add-on. somebody else said that it uses too much computer resources, so why not have a special CPU on a card and let the computer's CPU free to do its own thing. somebody else said, instead of watching tV locally, I want to watch it 200 miles away, so, he encoded the output of the DVB card and packetised it to send it via Internet to anywhere else in the world. There essentially are 3 types of DVB cards. You have to read the specs carefully and see if the software available is propritory or Open source. Also study which of the above mentioned features you need and if they are there. |
New member Username: GolamPost Number: 4 Registered: Aug-06 | Thank you Nalin....good information. I'm a computer hardware guy ... i know about all sort of video cards. Any other source of information? Do you think Twinhan would be good investment for this? Much Appriciate it. |
Silver Member Username: ViruscauserLeesburg, Georgia Post Number: 564 Registered: Mar-07 | I have had my Twinhan VP-7021 for over three years now and have never had a problem with it. Have not looked into what's available today but I'd guess there are much better and much faster HDTV cards out there. I'd suggest buying an external card like mine though. |

Silver Member Username: ViruscauserLeesburg, Georgia Post Number: 567 Registered: Mar-07 | My setup is: Win XP Pro Twinhan VP-7021 MyTheatre 3.38 Emunation That's all you need really. I knowledge about these things is very limited: Some use DVBDream or other similar Progs instead of MT and some use Linux instead of Windows but I wouldn't know about all those. There are a myriad of DVB cards available too but my Twinhan is the only one I've used or know anything about. |

New member Username: LukaPost Number: 2 Registered: Dec-07 | Thanks Abby, > That's all you need really. I wish... I've played with VP-7021A about a year ago and my experience at the time was you need to try countless combinations of driver-app-cam until you get one that is satisfactory. Last app not necessarily worked nicely with the last driver, not to mention cams. Unfortunately, my VIA 1GHz board was too slow to play B3V HD (even with hardware mpeg2 decoder onboad) so I gave up. I'd give it another try with my new laptop. Do you use driver from Twinhan site? Do you know if it works for Vista? Thanks. |
Gold Member Username: Ke5aqnIF I DONT KNOW THE ANSWER, I WILL FIND... Post Number: 2066 Registered: Sep-06 | Luka, I was just thinking I bet its a fight to get it all working under windows with all the driver issue's......I would run it in a linux environment I bet the Linux users have it working! I am ordering a DreamBox as soon as I can its a Linux operated box.... |
Silver Member Username: ViruscauserLeesburg, Georgia Post Number: 571 Registered: Mar-07 | MT comes with all the Twinhan drivers that you'll need but you can get the latest drivers for the Vista from the manufacturers website if you need to. I don't know about the Vista but I've not read anything about Vista problems on any of the sites I visit so it's safe to assume that using Vista poses no problems at all. I have to admit a lot of frustration when I first tried to set it up and finally got it working through help from the very helpful members at the MyTheatre support forum. I'd strongly suggest you give it another try. |
New member Username: LukaPost Number: 3 Registered: Dec-07 | CyberMaster, from brief look at it DIGIWAVE EXTREME HDTV doesn't appear to be DVB card. It is for terrestrial broadcasts. Re Dreambox, another option could be CaptiveWorks 3000HD. It's being sold as FTA receiver, but from what I see in their description it's just a regular PC with (unconfirmed) Skywalker-1 DVB add-on card, all in a nice HTPC case. If it indeed has Skywalker ($300 DN HD capable card) than at $480 it sounds like a bargain. |
Bronze Member Username: VittuPost Number: 84 Registered: Oct-07 | Luka. I just ordered Skywalker-1 to get all HD that BEV&Charlie has to offer including mpeg4. I also upgraded my video card to ATI HD 2600XT. Can't wait.. |
New member Username: GolamPost Number: 6 Registered: Aug-06 | Abby I just bought Geniatech SatBox Satellite USB Box http://www.sat-sales.com/proddetail.php?prod=SatBox_Satellite_USB_Box It supports Mytheatre, ProgDVB. Any suggestion or thought? |
Silver Member Username: ViruscauserLeesburg, Georgia Post Number: 572 Registered: Mar-07 | Like I said, I know just one card but the info you linked shows nothing to worry about. I'd expect this to work just great. Now might be a good time to visit |
New member Username: LukaPost Number: 4 Registered: Dec-07 | The FTA Tester, that's why I bugged Abby with precise info. Once someone get working combo it's just a matter of install exact same components. Linux IMHO is the best environment for developer (or tester :-). You can tweak it any way you like, but could be a challenge if you havn't dealt with it before. |

New member Username: LukaPost Number: 5 Registered: Dec-07 | Vittu, I'd appreciate if you write-up your experience once you get it working. BTW, where did you order it from, how much? Thanks. |
New member Username: GrearzPost Number: 9 Registered: Jul-06 | I've tried some of the linux apps and for those who want a sweet dvb setup. Learn some xml scripting and use the sage tv plugin with my theatre. full mpeg4 hd recording. can automatically convert to divx, burn. you can use the haupage medi centres and flash with sage software adn with eace media centre you have a seperate satelite box in each room using rj45. I do open card sharing with a friend's server so it barely goes down. I love linux but the linux pvr apps are more buggy. ne how, this is porbably way more advanced than what you've seen out there. go to my theatres forum and search sage tv. just trying to open you up to something different. |
Bronze Member Username: ThadragunKingston, Ontario Post Number: 41 Registered: Mar-07 | THE FTA TESTER, I'm not sure if you live in US or not...did you get a dreambox with American tv connections? I'm not going to buy one, I just bought a new VSPRO a little while ago, but I was just curious about them just incase I wanted one later on. Thought I'd look into them to see what its all about. They look pretty good but all the ones I've seen have Scart(?) tv connection. None available for US/Canada? |

New member Username: GrearzPost Number: 10 Registered: Jul-06 | It is, I use a sony dual amd server with 1 terabyte for media storage and windows 2003 a the o/s. Dedicated only to sage. You need a very good graphics card as well. most new cards are fine, at least a pentium 4 , I prefer amd, runs cooler. Cost a little more to setup than buying an hd stb. Servers don't cost too much these days. TWinhan cards are probably better. not sure if i'd trust the digiwave. the above link by Abby is all you need to start your search. |
Bronze Member Username: VittuPost Number: 85 Registered: Oct-07 | Luka: I ordered it from hxxp://www.genpix-electronics.com/ for $322CAD. You cannot buy it from anywhere else. The reason I bought it because it's much cheaper than buying a HD receiver ~650. This USB 2.0 adapter supports both MPEG2/MPEG4 for any provider and has built in all qpsk/8psk etc and can do much much more than a FTA HD receiver. I should be have it before xmas and will give my feedback on this unit. |
New member Username: LukaPost Number: 9 Registered: Dec-07 | Thanks Vittu, My thought was if CaptiveWorks 3000HD really uses Skywalker as it's sat tuner than it's well worth $480. If it uses some other and only supports SW as add-on, than it's another story. For now I'll be happy with $30 Twinhan 7021A. B3V's Discovery and the like are all I need in HD. I guess, I'll need to do more research on CW3k. Please let me know if SW-1 worked well for you once you get it. |
