Ok I'm feeling like doing something productive I want to build a amp rack. So if any1 can help I would love it ok my questions are
1. What kind of wood to use.
2. Good program for helping me do this.
3. Will the amps function correctly if there are setting at an angle facings the front of the cabin.
4. And will the amps overheat if I set them in flush in the amp rack hiding all except the top. Maybe even putting a lid over the top with hinges to open and close as I please. Any help or tips guys?

same 3/4 mdf, or smaller, use the scrap...you don't need a design program, just cut out whatever shape you want the amp(s) sitting on and that's it. as far as sitting flush, make sure there is airspace between the flush plate and what the amp is sitting on for heat dissepation (spl check), maybe even drill some holes down the side of what essentially will be a box if you want it sitting flush, also for letting heat out and away from the amp. don't hang your amp upside down and you will be fine.

I kno but your amp rack doesn't have to be made out of what your box is. I didn't think so I thought their might be a cheaper wood to use or something or a wood tht dissapates heat better or something. I'm not tht dumb I was just thinking 2 hard

Expensive? Yup. Where I bought mine:

And we've all seen this guy's install. He used wood and lighting on his amp rack and it came out well I thought.

Man I know what mdf is where did you get the impression tht I didn't?? I just thought something might be better for this project than plexi glass. Ok no plexiglass!
Is there any fans tht would be good for this?

if you want a clean looking rack, go the fiberglass route. its a lot of work but looks nice if you paint it right.

unless you want your car to be all flashy, a simple amp rack that is very practical is the best route. what i mean by practical is, you can get to the settings on your amp without taking the amp out.

clean up the wires very nice and you are all set.

you really won't need fans unless you are just pounding the sh!t out of your equipment all the time, and you have enough room for heat to get move around and hopefully get out of the small enclosure your amp(s) will be in if you are setting it flush

cuz thieves said "same 3/4 mdf, or smaller, use the scrap" and then in response to that you said "Mdf??" with question marks like you didnt know what it meant, thats what gave us the impression. lol

Actually plexi is far stronger than MDF on a thickness to thickness comparison. Also FAAAAR more expensive. If you want the bling and have the jingle why not the plexi? Just be careful with the cuts. If you plan ahead have the manufacturer cut them to fit. They're pretty precise and you won't be taking any chances on your own.

Do you have the greenbacks?

When I ordered the plexi for my Q box I ordered a specific size and it came damn near perfect. I mean less than a 1/32-1/64th of an inch tolerance. I built my box around it instead of cutting the piece.

I paid over $30 for a 1/2" thick piece 12" X 16".

It's solid as a rock.

$13 for a 4' x 8'

here is my "flush" I'll be adding more bracing and a double baffle on top of the back of the box to reduce vibration drastically.

Router if you're gonna round off the edges. Belt sander to take off rough edges. Drill bits to drill and counter sink the screws, I like the counter sink bits as they do two jobs in one. Clamps, squares, ect......

And just one word of advice, ok maybe two, don't rush and keep a neat/safe work enviornment.

use the circular saw to cut the big pieces, and teh jigsaw to cut the detailed/smaller pieces....countersinking prevents wood splitting and allows the screw to go in easier, plus it makes the screws sit flush.

Nail gun FTW!!!
