Well, even though i have seen alot of my buddies 360's bite the dust...I'm thinking bout getting myself one for Christmas. I want it, but all the crap about em messing up is spookin me. Guess I'm gonna have to get the extended warranty though, cause they seem to like to fukup.
Like this past weekend, I was over at a buddy's house playing Halo...then his 360 started freezing. We boxed it up rite then and took it to GameStop. They replaced it over the counter, no questions asked. Well...that rite there tells me that there must be ALOT of 360's taking a sh1t on people. The price had gone down also, so he got an extra 1yr warranty free.
While we were at GameStop, I played Guitar Hero 3 for the first time (only ever played the others like 2 times b4). Well, after 2 songs...I'm hooked.
Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and grab a 360...and GH2...and Halo3.
yeah, my bros sh!t on him and he had to send it right to microsoft. didn't take too long though... i guess the HD and other stuff in them just fries because they aren't cooled good enough. not totally sure on that though
but since my bro already has a 360, i'm goin for the ps3 this Christmas
The HD doesn't fry. What happens is the GPU and CPU get extremely hot due to the poor design in the way the heatsinks are applied to the chips.Over this weekend I fixed two 360s.One was out of warranty because it was refurbished so I ripped it completely apart because it had the 3 RLOD(Error 0020) so...I did a heatsink mod and the problem was solved. The other one had a jammed disc drive which you have to open manually(Simple to do) and I had to open and close it several times for things to line up and work properly.I bought a 360 on Friday and returned it on Saturday because it kept freezing. They gave me a new one right away. They also have 3 year warranties from Microsoft if I can recall correctly.
Yeah, they extended the warranty to 3 years for all 360s. As far as refurb goes, if you got it from Microsoft, I think you can send it back in and they will just send you another refurb....do it enough and they will send you one of the new ones with the HDMI i think...
Microsoft doesn't send out refurbs as far as I know. They sell them to companies for cheap and then when a refurb has an issue they don't warranty them.So be careful if you buy a refurbished unit.I'm personally not worried about buying a refurb because I know how to fix them but...had I not fixed one already I'd be nervous about working on my own, my cousins 360 was a guinnea(Not sure on this..) pig or however you spell that name for that rodent...
well i read some reviews and the 360 elite seems to be your best bet if your gonna buy one.....a friend of mine has had to replace his 360 2 times cause something in it over heats and has to be sautered back together again he even has an aditional external cooling fan and it still does it ..he sends it in and they ship him out a replacement or fix his old one.....but the elite's seem to be better in some way...jsut an idea...i personaly am bout to get a ps3....i like them much more
Well Rob, a friend of mine bought a refurb, sent it in due to the overheating feature that Microsoft provides, they sent him back another refurb, and he also fried that one, again they sent him a second (or third) refurb...

Well I guess they do sell their own refurbs but as far as I know they do not honor warranties on refurbished units but I guess there's some exceptions to it. If your friend wants to fix it himself it wouldn't be a bad idea. My cousins has been running for hours and hours and hours and working flawlessly sinced modded since Friday.
"something in it over heats and has to be sautered back together again he even has an aditional external cooling fan and it still does it"
Those cooling fans are just a way of stealing your money. They will not take the heat off of the chips that are over heating and causing the 360 to shut down or give off the 3RLODs.The Elites are no different, they use the same hardware inside but they have extra features. I work with a guy who sent in 2 Elites.
Well if you open it up Thieves your warranty is totally voided, that's the only downside but just let me know if you have problems and want to go through with it.I'll let you know how it's done without any confusion.
