so one of my friends was talking to someone from crutchfield and the person told him that it is not necessary for ford explorers to have to get a new head unit. and the guy said you can plug in subs to the stock HU... i told my friend the guy was wrong because in order to hook up subs you need a rca output on the HU.. my friend is convinced hes gna hook up subs to his stock explorer head unit.. so im just checking so i dont look retarded..

on all ford explorers ive seen there is no rca output in the stock HUs so is it possible too hook up subs without it?

lots of amps, including kicker, will take speaker wires spliced into rear spekers in vehicle as an input, instead of rcs's.my rca output went bad on my deck and i did that on my kx600.worked fine...not as good as rca's but o.k.

You can use an amp with line level inputs or use an LOC. But SQ will suffer unless you get a real HU.
