Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 13 Registered: Sep-06 | Hi, I could really use some help with hooking up my system I just recently purchased. I have two audiobahn 12" subs (see link) enclosed in a bandpass box, power acoustik plasma series amplifier (see link), and Power acoustik 3.0 farad capacitor. Links: http://www.cardiscountstereos.com/catalog%20page.asp?Product+%23=AW1251TPAIR http://www.cardiscountstereos.com/catalog%20page.asp?Product+%23=TS19202 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D160158915547#ebayphotohos ting OK, my question is, how do I hook up the dual voice coils? at first a friend and I tried hooking from pos 2. to pos 1., neg 2. to neg 1., then pos. 1 to box terminal, neg. 1 to box terminal for each subwoofer, but got no sound. Then we unhooked the pos/neg 2 to 1's from each woofer leaving one voice coil and now we have sound. But won't it sound better with both hooked up? What are we doing wrong? I am new to audio and this is my first system. A diagram would be most help full showing inside my box, to to my amplifier. Help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance |

Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 14 Registered: Sep-06 | here is a diagram of how we had it before and it didn't work.. hope you enjoy, homemade, lol |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 235 Registered: Feb-07 | try only one sub i don't think u amp can do 1ohm?? |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 15 Registered: Sep-06 | what do u mean it can't do 1 ohm? I'm not quite sure by what you mean |
Platinum Member Username: Chaunb3400Huntsville, Alabama U.S. Post Number: 12946 Registered: Jul-05 | in ur pic..dont forget to wire up all the vc's... |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 16 Registered: Sep-06 | keep in mind i'm brand new to audio.. don't really understand the ohm's and what not.. does this mean I can only have one sub going? Also, back to the diagram... there is a divider between my subs, what do i do there? |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 237 Registered: Feb-07 | umm if u do one sub like u got in ur pic u got a 2ohms! if u do 2 subs like u had it wired its a 1ohm! if you want to do 4ohms u get less power! 4ohms is the boutom one in the pic http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qt y=2&woofer_imp=4 |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 18 Registered: Sep-06 | vc's? what are those? |
Gold Member Username: RideredderCornell, IL USA Post Number: 1001 Registered: Sep-05 | You can run one of those subs at 2ohms, or both at 4ohms. You could wire them both up so the amp sees 1ohm, but that amp isn't 1ohm stable. |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 19 Registered: Sep-06 | well.. the way i had it wired i got 0 ohms because I had no sound? |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 238 Registered: Feb-07 | yep yep just like he said u may get it loder at 2ohms. the sub's u got are dvc! dvc = Dual Voice Coil, svc = Single Voice Coil |

Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 239 Registered: Feb-07 | u if u want to get more power u will need a diff amp that is a 1ohm stable. |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 240 Registered: Feb-07 | he will be under powering them? |
Gold Member Username: RideredderCornell, IL USA Post Number: 1002 Registered: Sep-05 | At 4ohms, yes. |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 20 Registered: Sep-06 | okay, so my amp isn't very good basically? This is how i have it now It sounds pretty good that way, but it will sound better with the other voice coil connected, correct? |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 242 Registered: Feb-07 | i think he should upgrad his amp soon and the amp needs to be 1 ohms stable |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 21 Registered: Sep-06 | just bought the amp , I thought the only difference was 2/4 channel, lol.. (I'm very new).. |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 22 Registered: Sep-06 | is the way I have it wired now the reason I have troubles with my amplifier getting hot? and Also my capacitor stays on 24/7 and kicks off occasionally, just went out to my car to look at my box and my cap was on... |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 243 Registered: Feb-07 | go and try it the first way u had it on one sub only to the amp like the top one. it should hit now and come back and tell use how it sounds then try it the 4ohm way but u will be under powering and see what sounds better to you http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qt y=1&woofer_imp=4 |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 23 Registered: Sep-06 | okay.. well, I'll be sure and try it tomorrow morning and I'll let you know how it sounds. Thanks a lot everyone |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 244 Registered: Feb-07 | maybe see its bad to do svc on dvc so go try it idk about capacitor i don't like them just to the big 3 and sell u capacitor! the big 3 works better then a capacitor |
Bronze Member Username: Koondawg06Post Number: 26 Registered: Sep-06 | o well i was told the cap would store power so the head lights wouldn't dim at night... what do u mean by big 3? |
Silver Member Username: Kingandsons07Lincoln, Nebraska U.S.A Post Number: 246 Registered: Feb-07 | u add 0g power wiring from the - of your batt to the car! 0g wiring from ur + batt to ur alt! then 0g wiring from you engine block to ur are! |
