MTX Thunderform replacement sub?

Here's my situation. I have a 2000 Jetta and just installed a JL 500/5 amp and a Thunderform sub box. I used a Rockford 3Sixty.2 OEM integration because I didn't want to lose my use of my Phatbox DMS system, otherwise I would have upgraded to a better HU. Anyway, the sub is a little anemic and the installer said that he barely had to bump the levels, meaning the MTX driver is crap and I have plenty of spare power for a better sub.
I would like to know if it's worth keeping my Thunderform and upgrading to a low profile driver Some of the brands/models I have found are: Earthquake SWS-10, Rockford P3, Power Acoustik STW-10, Kicker CompVT, and then some Kenwood and Pioneer stuff.
I was told by someone that should know, the Rockford P3 is a very nice sub and if I go with that, there are options such as DVC 4ohm or 2ohm, so I would need to know which of these to get.
Thanks, Ron

Rockfords are okay. What are you going for LOUD or Quality with decent loudness.

SQ but loud as well. When I went to see Roger Waters a few weeks ago, his bass guitar just cuts through your body, but the sound is SOOOO clean, not like my neighbor thumping and rattling in his car.
I don't think I will get that with a single 10" but I was hoping that maybe a better driver would do better than the MTX Thunder 4500 4 ohm that comes in the box. BTW,the box is sealed and is 0.8cf.
I kind of think I might need to sell it and replace it with at least one 12" to get the sound I want, although I'm not sure. I really do like the use of my whole trunk that I get with the Thunderform.
Thanks for you help.

Try JL. I know I just name dropped but they do make some excellent SQL subs with good pound as well.

I don't know man Kickers are geared for SPL rather than what your looking for, but hey its your money and if that makes you happy...sweet.
