Post Number: 392 Registered: Jun-07 | ha ha, I almost had the movie finished, but wife accidently changed some of the settings, so it was like 97% done, and said 2hours left to go Went to a torrent forum site, they told me how to check my computers download speed, and get the settings set correctly...new time for it to be done? well, it said 6 minutes, but in the time I took to click over to here and type this, it almost finished, speed was like 86kbps...woot! now its seeding. remember people, if you use torrents, once you download something, be nice and seed it too. |

Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 5712 Registered: Jun-04 | ps...i thinkin of makin a homemade HT sub too but I live in an apartment building right now and I wanna use something like an image dynamics idq 12 for 20 hz notes when they show up |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 5713 Registered: Jun-04 | for now im using my oldschool onkyo 10 inch sub on a onkyo 150 watt plate amp |
Gold Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 8485 Registered: Jun-06 | Work good for ya? I'm tinkering in my head on experimenting on smaller subs myself. I've run 10's, 15's and an 18" driver for HT. Now the challenge is to maximize the output from a smaller driver of say 6" or less? Oddly I'd like to play around with 4's or smaller if I can find them just for fun. Test different boxes out and see what happens. Trial and error. |
Platinum Member Username: BestmankindSQ = SoundSplinter RL-s Post Number: 14254 Registered: Oct-05 | as soon as i find a plate amp that does around 1500wrms at 3ohms, ima get another rl-s. |
Platinum Member Username: BestmankindSQ = SoundSplinter RL-s Post Number: 14255 Registered: Oct-05 | i was thinking 6 cuft sealed box for a rl-s 15 for ht setup would be very nice. since the box will be huge, i can use it as a table also. lol. |
Gold Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 8486 Registered: Jun-06 | A table only when not in use lol. That's gonna be sweet Chad. Have you thought about external design? Meaning how are you gonna finish the outside? Carpet, paint, veneer, natural wood ect.... After all, it's going to be a piece of furniture. |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 5715 Registered: Jun-04 | Well my onkyo 10 is factory buit with factory amp and its ported and has electronic crossover, phase switch, and rcas for adding anohther subwoofer ...good stuff back then not the new stuff tho....I have cerwin vega dx7's 12's with mids and highs an onkyo 424 reciever 60 to 65 watts rms a channel an advent dual 5.25 center channel with a tweeter and advent 5.25 mini's with tweeters |

Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2368 Registered: Dec-06 | Chad you need around a 9-10 cube box to get the extension and output needed for HT. I built a sand-filled 10 cube (net) sealed sand-filled box out of inch and a quarter MDF for a client's home theater that weighs around 140 pounds without the driver. The output and low frequency accuracy is just ridiculous, and when we installed it we all looked at each other and just were like "whoa" and started laughing. So if you want a table... there you go. Also, good luck finding a plate amp that puts out 1500RMS @ 3ohms. If I ever see anything near that, I will let a brotha know. |
Gold Member Username: WingmanaliveA pic is worth 1000 posts!! Post Number: 8489 Registered: Jun-06 | I'll look into those Sean. It's so much cheaper to fool around with smaller drivers when all you're after is feedback on enclosure design experimentation. Plus the fuggers are cute too lol. I also don't have a sub for my pc so it wouldn't go to waste anyway. |
Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2369 Registered: Dec-06 | Paul, the driver you want to use if you want to experiment with 4's is the Vifa linked below. If you are running just one, the 4ohm rating allows you to get the most power from smaller plate amps and if you run two you will have the flexibility of having a 2 or 8 ohm resistance to work with. Plus, the little guy will hit in the right box/config, not to mention Vifa quality. http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_245_316&products_id=1 053&osCsid=57c4141783b5eb25ca2e7d1152897916 |
