I spent the weekend running new wires and everything to replace the factory Monsoon system in my '03 Grand Am. I kept it simple- Eclipse CD8053, JL 300/4 powering some Diamond S500s. I have it bridged atm, but the speakers don't seem to like it...

Anyhoo, the sound is tinny and kinda flat now. A few weeks ago I installed the S500s into the Monsoon system, and they sounded terrific. Well, as good as the Monsoon could be anyways...

So is there something I can do to the HU or the 300/4 to liven things up? Perhaps the S500s passive crossovers? Please help!

HA!! What a difference 2db makes! I forgot I was playing with the Diamond crossovers, and moved the dip switch to -2db position, which in my car, makes everything tinny, flat, and muffled. Moving the switch back to 0db, everything is perrrrrfect

Glad that was so simple...

Oh, and un-bridging the amplifier so the woofers could play happily below 160Hz without trying to stretch themselves apart...

They're now x'd at 80 w/12db slope and sound great! Midbass has returned! Yeah, I walked away from the car with a smile for once :-)
