Ok so i installed my 15" HD3 last friday and at first i was disappionted in it,then i was kinda happy with it but now im disappionted in it again. It just doesnt sound like i thought it would. I swear my w6 was louder and was way cleaner. I dont no what the problem is my box,amp or what. Im only putting 1000wrms to it but i still figured it would be loud. So anyways im thinking of getting a new amp, something that puts out at least 2000wrms at 1 ohm. I dont wanna spend more than 350-400 shipped. I was looking at the Powerbass asa2000.1,maybe a Hifonics,or the RD 1750.1. I was wondering what you all thought about the Powerbass b/c its only like 300 shipped and it says itll do 2000wrms at 1ohm but i dont no how accurate it is. Any suggestions on why my HD3 doesnt sound that good and suggestions on a new amp?

http://bbs.soundpressure.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=print_topic;f=34;t=001260

I wouldnt get one. I had a bad experiance with Powerbass. Again my experiance. Sure other ppl have had no problems with em. That Orion ^^ is a good amp.

Some other options can be found here broken down by rms.

My box is 4 cubic ft tuned to 40hz. I just dont understand tho some of the loudest and best sounding systems ive heard are a 15" Kicker (old round sub not sure what it was) in a sealed box with a JL amp,a 10" Kicker L5 or L7 on a JL 500/1 in a ported box,and three 10" low line JLs on a JL 250/1 in a sealed box. All those systems sounded great on any kind of music, rock and rap. The L5 or L7 actually hurt my ears and it was only a little 10. I was thinking my HD3 would destroy it. I just want it to sound good on any kind of music and have the punchyness and hurtfull bass those other systems had.

Sounds like you're ready to move up to SQ or SQL.
Had you invested your money and time on a 10W7 in a HO box, I could guarantee you would've been much happier with the result.
If the bass sounds boomy or out of phase, it could be that the box/sub is too big for your car.
Bigger is not always better.

Yea the bass does sound kinda boomy on some songs. It doesnt sound good on the lows at all and in rock songs i dont get hardly any bass. It only sounds good on some songs but even then my w6 was still louder. So should i try some differant boxes before i try a new amp? Maybe 3.5 cubic feet? Also i think the port is to big on my box b/c i get alot of port noise from it.

Im using a MB Quart RAA1000 1000wrms at 1ohm. I already emailed him,he designed a box for me but i dont really understand it here is what he said

"Per your drawing make the INTERNAL dimensions of the box: Width=40"
Depth=10.5" Height=21.5"

The EXTERNAL Dimensions are: Width= 41.5" Depth=12" Height=23-3/4"
(with double baffle) 23" height with single baffle. You should double
the baffle

Use the left hand end wall for the outer port wall.

Make the port 3-1/8" X 21.5" X 16" deep measured from the outer face of
the port. (These are interior port wall to wall measurements)

Your box will have approximately 4.25 net interior volume AFTER sub and
port displacements.

Box will be tuned to approximately 40 Hz.

Don't let people talk you into tuning lower"

Don't let yourself get discouraged, this can all get sorted out. Since this sub suggests 1000wrms then your amp is fine for the moment. Even though this sub can really take a lot more power than that, it should still pound and sound great with the right enclosure. That's why I believe it's your enclosure. Your W6 would have been cleaner I believe, but if you are leaning more towards the SQ of the W6, I would recommend tuning it a tad lower.. Around 35Hz, that was you will get more SQ from the sub, and keep the SPL you're looking for. IMO.

In conclusion: Worry about your enclosure, not the amp.

So do you think my enclosure might be too big or too small for my truck? Its 4cft 40hz now. I might try 3.5cft at 35hz or maybe something bigger like 4.5cft at 35hz. What would you suggest?

If I were you, I would try 3.5 Cubes @ 35Hz. Are you planning on building it yourself?

Yes and ive never built anything before so ill see how it goes. Im gonna go to Home Depot and have them cut everything for me so all i have to do is put it together. If i mess up its not that big of a deal mdf is only like 18 bucks for a whole sheet.

you're gonna have many peopple jump on you, so let me be the first ^^

DONT LET HOME DEPOT DO IT!
I have heard too many bad experiences from them, thats why I always cut myself. Its not that difficult. ALso, take into consideration the cost of silicon caulking ($4), the cost of 2" drywall screws ($7), the cost of Carpenter's wood glue ($3), and if you're gonna instal terminals in it or carpet it, you also have the cost of that. Just something to think about. Take care, I hope it works out.

Well i cant cut it myself b/c i dont have the tools to do it. Maybe ill go to Lowes lol. Still if i can get everything for 50 or less i wont be to upset if i mess it up. Itll be a learning experience for me. What do you think of this design?

I dont know the xmax or disp. of my sub so i kinda guessed.

Lol yikes. I could do one fore you for $110 shipped [non carpeted] And I would put your priority over the one I was gonna build tomorrow. I've got the tools here and experience, and I can assure you that you will not be dissatisfied. I can get it built for you tomorrow, and shipped out monday if you are interested. I just bought a sheet of MDF yesterday because I was planning on building that single 10" enclosure, but I can do this one for you instead.

Don't have a store cut your wood. Everyone I've ever talked to who did that said they didn't cut it right. When building a sub box the cuts have to be spot on, otherwise it creates a huge weakness in the box where it can either leak at the seams or blow apart.
