i have the chance to get the amp listed above and i was wondering if a 200 amp alt and a couple of batteries would be enough for that amp?

"test equipment:
craftsman true rms dmm
greenlee true rms ac/dc ammeter

voltage at amp was dropping to ~11.5v
77v, 50A
3850watts
2 ohms in box
485A current draw for ~69% efficiency"

485 amp current draw at 2 ohm. good luck with that 200 amp alt ;)

no 12 volt system is capable of supporting an amp of that size for long.Amps that large were built to compete with .If you make sure you use good wire(true 0 gauge w/ a high percentage of copper)your grounded at the frame, multiple fast charge/discharge batteries(kinetic, stinger),and a H.O. alternator then all you can do is hope it was enough to get the full potiential of the amp for a 30sec. run.Great amp to compete with but a waste of money otherwise.

Let's look at it realistically --

Say 6kw at 1 ohm
Accounting for efficiency of 75% 6000/.75 = 8000w
8000w/13v = 615A
To produce 6000w rms at 13v the amp would require 615A.
However - the only signal that would require 6000w rms would be 0dB sine waves at full volume.
If you listen to music you can divide that 615 by at least 3 - depending on music type you can divide it by 4, 5 or more.

Anyway - 615/3 = 205A
That's the most possible current that amp will require listening to some bass heavy music at full volume. Depending on the music type it could run closer to 150A. Then - assuming you turn it down once in a while it's quite possible your rear world current draw may only be around 100A.

So to answer your question - yes, I think a 200A alt and a couple good batteries may get the job done.
I would install a good volt meter though (not a cap). That's the type of amp that will make quick work of your charging system if a battery/alternator develops a problem.

thanks for all the help guys. but if you include the electrical needs of the car...lights etc etc. Than even with a 200 amp alt and a couple of good batteries the amp would be a little to much.

does anyone have any suggestions for a amp to push three Audioque HD315 subs?

you're going to want to gain limit that amp to 4kw or so. The 200A alt and the SS will work if you want it to.

Ain't no way that's gonna work very well. Those amps are known for having terrible efficiency at 1 ohm (about 60%).

Well, if you have 2 DVC2 subs, the Massive audio P3000.1 is rated 3000 rms at 2 ohms. Would that be enough power? $525 shipped with 2 year warranty

i was talking to Mark Potts and he said i would need to throw down some major power. roughly about 1500 watts rms per sub.

and is the Massive audio amp 1 ohm stable...the subs would wire down to 1.34 ohm?
