Ok well the alternator on my car is on the way out right now so instead of replacing it with a factory one I am just gonna go with a HO alt. I dont have a lot of money right now so I am only gonna be getting a 200 amp. The cheapest price I found was from Motor City Reman. Had anyone dealt with them or heard anything about their products?

They are good. But with an expansive item like an alternator, don't cut corners. It is cheaper to do it right the first time and get the biggest one you can find rather than have to buy another later when you upgrade.

M.S. I see where you are coming from but I really don't think that I will ever be running much more than 2000 watts RMS in my car and I think that the 200 amp will be able to handle that.

When I first got into car audio I didn't think I would ever want more than my 400 watt RF sub...

But ok, do what you want.

I know its an addiction and I will always want more, but for one I dont know how long I really plan to keep this car (not more than 2-3 years) and I for me a daily driver with 2000 watts is going to be plenty so thats why I am choosing the 200 amp.

2000w for daily driving? You'll go deaf long before the car dies.
500w -800w is ideal for that.

200amps is more than adequate.
What's really important is the number of watts going to the subs, anyway.
Even in the event that you have 2kwatts just for bass, 200amps is fine.

2000watts/13volts=154 amps

I ran 3200 watts to the subs with my 220 amp alt. No prob.

1) I will concur that you will want to get a high quality HO alt...not a rebuilt one.
And it always helps to have a warranty as well. My lifetime warranty costed 100 bones.
Well worth the security.

2) Upgrade your big three to allow for the extra power from your alternator. It needs to breathe.
I did mine myself, and it took all of thirty minutes. 45 tops (only bc I fused the alternator).

3) Then you can get a cap without getting trashed for it :-)

Well it doesn't matter that much anymore cause my alternator died yesterday on the ride home and my dad bought me a new one today but told me no more subs or anything until I get the car paid off. So it will be a little while. But on the plus side the new alt we got is 130 amps and 80 amps at 2000 rpms, and it has a lifetime warranty on it so it doesn't matter if I fry it again.

500-800 watts is not a whole lot....well I guess to some people it could be.

Rob, 500-800w using JL HO box. If you hear one in person, then you'll see why it's enough for daily driving.
Don't let the numbers obscure your vision.

although i may have 8000wrms on hand, i could never drive around listening to it at a high volume. it is just physically impossible. but it is good to have incase you want to show off to people that want to get in the car to hear it. the expressions on their faces are priceless.

Yeah I figure w/ 1000 watts it will be plenty loud enough for a daily driver because my old setup was almost loud enough and the extra 1000 will be there to impress my friends. They already thought what I had was awesome.
