I'm looking to get some high quality component speakers for my 2005 Infiniti G35x sedan. I do not have the bose system. I'm only looking to spend $200-$300 on the speakers. Anyone have any suggestions? Here are the ones I'm considering so far (sort of in order):

Rainbow: Power Line CMX 265 ($300)
Morel: Tempo 6 ($240)
Diamond Audio: M661 or D661 ($200-$230)
Focal: Polyglass 165 V1 or V2 ($230)
Boston Acoustics: SL60 ($225)
Image Dynamics: CXS64 ($360)
CDTAudio: CL62 ($250)
Infinity: Kappa ($230)

I might also consider JL and Audiobahn. I think I'm ruling out the MB Quart 'cause a lot of people complain the tweeter's too sharp. Dynaudio, Hertz, and Seas seem too expensive.

A lot of people say it depends on your music tastes and your specific car. I listen to music like Postal Service, House (Milk & Sugar, Miguel Migs), Dave Matthews, Beasties, some hip hop (Notorious), and some jazz (Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins). Any suggestions for speakers for this kind of music and car?

Thanks!

Get those rainbows! Where can you get them for that price?

just making sure, you are going to amp those right. Sorry if you were assuming we knew that, but honestly it'd be a sin not to amp those speakers, and your list of speakers is good enough without JL and defly without audiobahn

Also consider some Crystals

Can get Rainbows from speedsound.com. They charge $360 online but I went into the store and the guy quoted me $300. Not sure which price I'd get actually.

I am going to amp them, and was planning to add a 10" sub too. I'm thinking a JL 10w3 V2D4 (300 watts) or the Image Dynamics IDQ10 V2D4 (250watts). For an amp, I was thinking the JL 500/5 ($610) or maybe the Zapco REF 650.6 ($730). What do you think?

I'll check out Crystal too.

Cal - is ED a brand itself, or does it stand for something else? I tried searching around but couldn't find anything.

I'm hoping to find a way to get a cheaper 5 channel amp without compromising quality. I was hoping to get the JL, Alpine PDX series, or Zapco Ref series but all are the most expensive items right now. If there are some other good amps for this set up (targeting the Rainbows with the IDQ 10" sub and some rear fill coaxials at this stage) please let me know.

Thanks

Cal - I found the ED. The NINe.5 could be a great solution. At $450 it's still bit more than I'm hoping to spend, so if you have any other suggestions for the $300 range please let me know. If it's just dumb to get the Rainbows and push them with a lame amp i'll go for the $450 range. I'm also thinking about getting the Rockford Fosgate 3sixty1 processor to keep it clean. Thanks for the help.

dont get a 5 channel you dont need it. get a nice 2 channel about 150rmsx2 for the comps i suggested. and get another 2 channel to bridge and run the sub or get a mono sub amp.

If you're interested in the any CDT set email me about them. As for amps, get a nice 2ch and then get like the JBL 600.1 or something for the subs. They're cheap and do pretty well.

don't order Rainbow products from speedsound.com
they are about 5 year old speakers and the newer stuff is better and can be found for close to the same price.
www.premier-audio.com
or go to caraudio.com and search for all the Rainbow threads. there are some dealers over there that can get you better prices.
