New car and HU - What speakers should I get??

I just got a 2004 Toyota 4Runner and am getting a Pioneer Premier DEH-P790BT installed ...

I am now looking at speakers and am confused as to what I should do. I want to spend around $300-400 on speakers. The guy at Tweeter really recommends the Focal 165A components. I was thinking about getting these and adding rear coaxials later (or maybe not at all). However, I do not know if I will get an amp in the future and have heard that I may be more satisfied just buying coaxials in the front and back (The Pioneer Premier TS-D601P coaxials were recommended).

Again, I don't have a huge budget and don't know how much I'll add in the future in terms of an amp or subs. I want good SQ and something obviously better than my factory systems.

Thanks in advance ...

ok i saw it now, its the 2007 model, its good but the preout went down to 4v, and instead of 16band eq, it decrease to 7band and the most important for it to have is the 24 bit burr brown so thats a big deal to downgrade, so for that price you can get the p980bt which has the blutooth and all of the features i said

My personal opinion on this is that if you're spending $300-400 on higher end speakers, it's REALLY advisable to spend money on an amplifier because that's what makes them come alive and perform to their potential. You can try it off the HU first and if you like it, you can stick with it.

no dont try it off the HU. just spend the money and get an amp. you'd be an idiot to buy a $400 set of comps and then give them 18 watts. you'll prolly end up clipping the hell out of them and throw the $400 down the drain. skip the rear coax's and get an amp. i personally like the eD nine.2 which should power an average set of comps very well. i myself run a nine.2x because my comps can eat about 230 rms, but for anything such as iridiums or the focal's you listed above, 100-130 should be plenty. eD rates their stuff at 12.5v, not 14.4v like everyone else. so they're actually underrated compared to all others. if you call eD to place your order, they'll give you 10% off if you ask for it. or if you get an amp and a sub, the total package runs 15% off.

eD nine.2

Yeah, most aftermarket speakers are a noticeable improvement over the factory ones. What's your budget for both sets?

i don't know - like $200 before installation?

that could either be for one good set in the front or 2 average sets in the back. i'm not looking for the best sq out there, just a noticeable difference over the factory speakers

thanks for your help!

These should be good:

Don't get a rear set for now and see how you like the sound. You're getting a pretty nice HU, you'll be wasting a lot of its potential by not getting an external amplifier. If you get these infinities, you'll have about $100 left for an amp..you should definitely do that.

yea, an amp is HIGHLY recommend to show any speakers true performance, most hu's just don't cut it. But that's not saying it will sound bad, you will just be missing a lot

infinitys do produce a hell of a sound esp from what ive used the rference 250w damn what clear audio u should notice a huge diff in sound without breakin the bank one bit even 6x9 3 way infinitys run under 200 in the 160 - 170 range for high rms but kappas are rated the best for infinity.

Yeah, I imagine they'd sound really good. We got a cheap set of alpine type Rs a while ago and they sounded really good as well. Ryan, you can get a pretty good amp for around $100 that'll make your entire system come alive...let me know if you need suggestions for an amp.

Either one of these would do the trick for you...

People on here like rockfords a bit more than MTX, but MTX does make solid amps - you won't be disappointed with either. Cosmetically though, I'd give a few brownie points to the MTX - not really fond of that particular RF design. BTW when you look at those amp specs, look at the 2ohm rating b/c those infinities are 2ohm speakers.
