i emailed Iraggi and asked if they made any 16 Volt alternators and he replied "We can add an external adjustable regulator to your alternator.

Adjust from 13.4v to 21v $99.00"

so im not really sure what an adjustable external regulator does? since it can be adjusted from 13 to 21 volts does that mean i could just turn the knob to 16 volts and then my electrical system would be running off of 16 volts ?? im pretty sure that cant be right but i would like to figure it out

I think I remember hearing that a step-up transformer sacrifices amperage for voltage? This is a good question for glasswolf.

Most alternators have the voltage regulator built in, some have an external adjustable one like that.

And yes as you increase voltage you get less amperage.

ok well then is the tradeoff worth it?? would the decrease in amperage be worth it?? if i ran the alt at 16V would i see more power? considering its a tradeoff, amps for volts, will this typically result in more power?

It entirely depends on the amplifier. In most cases, no.
