Of course i'm talking about the in-dash screen models, but other models do the same thing minus the fun i beleive alpine has something similar |

If You NEED to have control of the iPod through the deck then you can probably use the Alpine KCA-420i(as long as your deck supports it). But if you can do without the on deck controls and don't mind using the iPod to control the audio, you can get one of two Aux input adapters, the KCA-121B for AI-Net decks or the KCA-122B for Versa-link M-Bus decks depending on the model number of your HU, and then run an RCA to Miniplug (3.5) cable into the iPod's headphone port. You won't get Dock connector-quality sound, but I doubt you'd ever really notice. I used this method with my old Pioneer deck with a similar cable and far prefered it to the Pioneer iPod adapter option for ease of use and certainly for price. Plus, I'd always rather use my iPod's controls rather than the deck. There are also options like the Harmon/Kardon Drive + Play, but they're pricey. Alpine's Full Speed Cable works great but only decks made starting in '06 have the input for it. |

I've never used the full speed cable but I had the adapter for a while and never liked it much. It lagged a bit and the interface wasn't all that intuitive. I'm very surprised the 980bt doesn't work with the full speed cable. I've heard only good things about the Alpine cable (KCE-422i), but I'm a fan of Pioneer products and think the 790bt is a better deck (though a bit more money). I'm not sure the 980bt is worth its cost to most users, though the enhanced graphics and controls are probably a draw for some higher end users. If it were up to me, I'd go with the 790bt with the Pioneer full speed cable in a heartbeat. |
