Alpine decks

do the alpine decks that have the v-chip or v something really need its own seperate amplifier kit? i read that they have a small internal amp in the deck itself and that it pulls too much current, that's why it needs its own amp kit. is that true?

Vdrive, and yeah not a "kit" so much but they do need a 10AWG line, fused, directly to the battery terminal post. They draw a solid 15A of current, which is over 100wRMS total.

26wRMS x 4 to be specific.

What happens is the amp in the head unit will draw more current than the dinky wiring in the car is designed to handle, and the wiring will pretty much melt, and possibly cause a fire behind the dash.
At best, you'll cause clipping in the amplifier, and distortion which will damage the speakers connected to the radio.

You wire it just like an amp. Run a 10 gauge wire from the battery terminal, through the firewall, and connect it to the head unit's power input. Same with the ground, mount it to the chassis.
