I have a Toshiba D-VR35SB combi recorder which I use to copy old VHS tapes onto DVD. Its a DVD-RW model. Recently it has been playing up, comes up with "System Error, try again after Power OFF". and it tells me a DVD needs formatting when I know it has several recordings on it. That's my first problem and I don't know whether the machine is "tired" or whether I can re-use the DVDs. They are RW, surely I can use them more than 10 times, or not ?
Because the Toshiba was getting tired, I bought a Philips DVD player. This new one is DVD - and + RW.As an experiment I chained them together with SCART cables, aiming to copy "old" DVDs onto the new machine. But, why not play the "old" DVDs on the new machine ? Tried that but it just said "loading" and stalled. I had to unplug it to get the DVD out. I had finalised the "old" DVD, but it still would not play on the new one. But...DVDs on the new Philips played happily on the "old" Toshiba. Curious.... I can understand SCART and AV1 etc, but I don't know the mechanics of DVD recorders and players.
So, DVD -RW how many times re-record before they are "worn out".?
