I am new to this FTA world. I have 2 dish antennas (from DISH) fixed on rooftop. 1 for American channels and 1 for south asian channels. I am planning to buy Viewsat PVR 7000. And I have few questions before I buy.
1. Is it easy to setup PVR7000?
2. Do I need to change the direction of the dish antennas
3. As I have 2 dish. The signals are combined to 1 cable and single cable is coming inside house to get channels from both American and South Asia. Can I get all the channels using 1 reciever/PVR. Or do I have to run both cables inside my house
4. If I decide to buy the PVR, Can I connect the same PVR to 2 TVs (located in different rooms). If yes, How can we view 2 different programs at the same time?
5. How often do I need to change the keys or upgrade software?
6. Does TIVO work on these FTA service?
I will have more questions when I have some information. I would really appreciate if someone could help me on this.
Viewsat PVR 7000 is an excellent receiver. I don't see HD in the specs. You should run the signals from the two dishes through a switch such as a DiseqC 4 to 1 switch. Considering the expense you are going through, you should ask the Viewsat dealer the LNBs and connections needed to do two 4 to 1 DisEqC switches to two rooms. The possibilites are endless, and instead of being bogged down in the forum answering all sorts of questions to the helpers here, it would be better for you to go to your dealer to a satelllite installer and have the whole two receiver two dish system set up for anything between $30-$80 plus the harware.
1. How easy/difficult to setup the PVR 7000 2. WOuld you be able to list the steps (just the steps. no details at this time) to get the channels. 3. My Dish Net is working with the existing dish. Do I have to change the direction of these dishes for viewsat?
You do not need to change anything except the receiver. You may want to consider better switching and two receiver setup if you want to. Viewsat info: You can get all information and directions from http://www.totalfta.com They are the official site for Viewsats.
U may have to change LNB's...newer Dishnet installations are usually done with Dish Pro Plus (DPP) LNB's which U do NOT want and are NOT FTA/Viewsat friendly..
To answer all your questions would be a 1 week course in satellites..
Dpp (plus) work just fine on a Dish500..no problems and can have another Dishpro single lnb on a Dish 300 for another sat without using a diseqc switch, connected thru the dpp.. Setup 119 on port 1, 110 on port 2 and 91 on port 3 and get about a 1000 channels..Use OCS-DP Lnb type..
Not true, especially when using a FTA PVR and more than 1 FTA receiver and 2 televisions with different channel viewing, along with DN receiver..and DPP is definitely NOT for a newbie, or any FTA users, especially a newbie with a PVR...the receiver setup is simple, but thats NOT the REAL issue with DPP LNB's!
Please world in your ultimate wisdom, show us a disgram how U would setup a DPP LNB to a FTA PVR, and another FTA, and a DN receiver to 2 TV's, so U can view different channels..
Thanks everyone. For now I am thinking of buying VIEWSAT ULTRA. Seems like VIEWSAT is planning to release a reciever for HD signals. So, I will wait for that before I spend on PVR
Is Viewsat Ultra a better choice (compared to Extreme)?
I got the following steps from totalfta site. I already have the dish setup done .
Is that all I need to do to watch the FTA channels?
1. Flashing the viewsat with latest bin 2. Setup the antenna & LNBs 3. scan the channels 4. Sort the channels (optional)
