Did I make a GOOD AMP Choice?

So here's the situation...

I currently have Kicker Dual 12" Subwoofer/ Enclosure Package (DCVR12), check that out at: http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=117529

Those are powered by a Kicker ZX-750.1 Mono Channel Amplifier, check that out at: http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=145725

That setup runs fine, all are connected by Tsunami cables, a 1200W Power Kit and a Tsunami 5 farad cap.

This is where the problem comes in. I recently, days ago, had all 4 of my 6x9's replaced, 2002 Dodge Stratus SE Sedan, with ALL Kicker 6" x 9" 3-way Speakers, check those out at: http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=132001

I have those powered by a Kicker ZX-350.4 4-Channel Amplifier ,check that out at: http://circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=145726

However, it seems like when I have my Eclipse CD3000, http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Eclipse-Advanced-Function-CD-MP3-In-Dash-Player-C D3000/sem/rpsm/oid/146068/catOid/-13089/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do , cranked up high for an extended period of time my 6x9's seem to fade out like the AMP is turning itself off or something. If I turn the CD player off for a minute or so and turn it back on the 6x9's play loud and clear then fade again after a little while. Its really noticeable if you're in the middle of listening to a song.

My question is....is the AMP that I was recommended to get by Circuit City not powerful enough to sustain that those speakers?

I know the RMS for the 6x9's is 90 Watts per pair, peak is 180 Watts.

The RMS for the AMP is 60 Watts each channel....its this not enough?

Is the AMP too weak? Do I need to return this amp in favor or a larger AMP say the Kicker ZX650.4?

I'm just confused as to why the speakers seem to fade and I think its AMP related.

if your CVRs are dual 2 ohm then you're fine. You're fine with the other amp too, just make sure to set the gain with a DMM.
You have a nice system for the money you paid man.

They are dual 2 ohm. What exactly is a DMM?

I haven't messed with the gain at all since Circuit City installed them. I have the bass boost on the mono amp turned about half way up and the bass boost on the 4 channel on the lowest notch possible. When they first installed the sub they said its best not to adjust the gain much so I just haven't messed with it but if it'll be better than I certainly will.

Thanks, they system sounds great now that I have the trunk, well a part of it dynamatted and got those old factory 6x9's out but they fade and I don't know whats causing it.

The 60x4 should be fine for your 90w speakers. Doesn't sound like a gain setting problem. Sounds like a thermal shutdown problem, but at 4 ohms there's no reason why the 350.4 should be doing that, even if the gains are set way high.

I dunno man. Call kicker - they should be more than willing to help.

Curt, you could have a short on the speaker wires. Best thing is to use DMM and measure the resistance on the speakers, make sure it's not 1ohm or less. Do the same for all speaker wires, that is check the wires are not shorting out to the car's chassis. Check the speaker terminals on the amp. Sometimes wire strands come loose and short out.
When the amp cuts out, see if it's overheating. If it is, then it's either the resistance is too low or signal overload/short.

What kind of charging system do you have, can it handle it? Your mids\highs ussualy fade before subs when they are not getting enough power that may be your problem take a volt meter and measure your voltage when it starts happening

I suppose that means i'll have to take it back to Circuit City for all that since that's who did the install.

There isn't anything special about my charging system. I was going to get a deep cycle optima yellow top battery but due to the positions on batteries on the 02' Dodge Stratus, behind the driver side fender, that battery can't fit there. The best I can get is the optima red top battery battery that can fit that compartment but I haven't done that yet. So I think the basic AC Delco battery is still in there. I didn't know if there would've been a difference between that AC Delco and that Optima Red Top since it wouldn't be a Yellow Top so thats why I haven't done it yet. If there is a difference then i'll get that red top battery but I wasn't sure.

My subs don't seem to fade at all, even with the mds/highs fade the bass is till there, that's how I can definitely tell they're fading. The gain is set about on the 4th notch. LOL, its somewhat hard to explain so I took pics and hosted them on tinypic.

Here are the links:

They show exactly where the gain is set.

your gains look like they are set just about right. Is your amp very hot when this happens? I would have them switch out a new amp for the 6x9's and see if that solves it.

i would check your voltage, do u notice any dimming at all with anything? it close, looks like you got about 1100 watts, thats about as much as you can have on a stock chargin system.

easiests solution for you is to just take it back to Circuit City. Read isaccs post up above ^^^^^^^
I have a feeling it could be a short somewhere as well, I had one of those before.

I just took it in to Circuit City and explained the problem. They think that its more so the speakers than the wiring but they asked me to drop it off on Wednesday and they'll look at all the wiring and replace the speakers if they need to be replaced. I'm not sure whats causing it, when it happens the amp doesn't go into protection mode or anything like that so i'm pretty sure its not the amp. I'm more inclined to believe its the speakers or the wiring as others have stated but i'm not sure myself, after all if I knew that much about it then I would've done it myself.

So I suppose i'll drop it off Wednesday morning and go pick it up after classes, hopefully they'll do whatever they need to do and narrow down the problem.

I do have a stock battery currently in my car, do the red top optima batteries give more performance? Particularly the red top optima battery since a yellow top will not fit in my car? I'm just trying to find some other mid range solutions to power as some have stated here the stock battery may be overloaded. I'm stopping short of a H.O. alternator and battery running from my trunk. Both of those options pretty much VOID my excellent extended warranty that I have.

Thanks so much for all your help EVERYONE!

it depends on more then that, batterys alos give you different amp\voltage ratings which in return can let the amp make more power, expeccialy when trying to burp at lower ohms (less resistance = more power) if your battery cant meet the demands.. the amp wont make as much power. But yea you can play it longer but that still does not mean your playing it at a good voltage with higher efficiency providing it enough amps as well...

HO ALT = VOID MY WARRANTY!!

My warranty has paid for over $2000 worth of problems so I don't think its a good idea for me to void that. Plus if my stock alternator goes bad guess what.....my warranty covers that too.

I'm about to go pickup my car now and they called and said they had to "re-tune" my radio because it was generating too much power for my rear speakers causing them to cut out and distort.

I guess on my drive back home i'll see if thats the case or not, but they said it works great now and I sure hope so.

i tried a tsunami cap. the way that they recommended me to install it required that all of my power run through the cap. After installing it my system was weak. I opened the cap and found shotty crimped connections. I removed the cap and my system was back up to par. there was no way that that crimped connection and small board traces could handle 300 amps.
