My job when I was in the Air Force was a boom operator on the KC-135A tanker aircraft for 20 years and before that I was on the KC-97G for 10 years. Now two airplanes flying at 600 miles an hour in close proximity connected to each other by a flying boom with one refueling the other was indeed dangerous. But I loved all 30 years of my doing it. Had a few close calls with cowboy receivers and one real close call with an inexperienced pilot trying to land a KC-97 in a cross wind at Harmon AFB Newfoundland. Damn near bought the farm on that one. But an experieced Flight Engineer saved all our lives that day.
all you fcuktards are wrong...the most dangerous job in the world is being underneath LK's wife...she is a fat fcuking pig, who probably weighs about 450 pounds, she coud very easily sit on your face and suffocate you in a heartbeat...just remember that people...ROTF
jojo...U are 100% correct about boom operators and air refueling, and back then it was allowed with pax on board too..the 135 is a decent bird, and the Buff/52's and the 135 are like joined at the hip for obvious reasons..Harmon and Goose Bay were both decent assignments, compared to Loring, Minot or most other SAC bases..I flew many 123, 130, C5 missions..as a load, then later as an engineer, both before and after I got commissioned..my son's doing A10's now, which I am a little familiar with too..yes that boomer has a lonely, tedious, dangerous job, and no control over others and certain factors..of course if he goes, they all go!...unless in a bad landing situation, then anything could happen.
LK....the first time a C-5 pulled up behind me I damn near hit the panic button. I had never before seen so much airplane from the bommers position. It damn near took up the whole sky. I had an instructor boom with me because I was getting qualified in the C-5 refueling catagory. He calmed me down a bit and everything went smooth. Yep...those were the days. TDYs to all kinds of exotic places. I even have over 300 combat missions flying out of Thailand. We got paid combat pay but the tanker crews never went into hostile territory...unless it was to go get a fighter who was low on gas. All we did was refuel the F-4s, and F-105s before they went in and after they came out. Sometimes they all didn't make it back.
Both you fcuking fruitcakes are absolutly right...the buff 52's where the cat's azz...goose bay was a son of a fcuking bitcch when it came to spewing your load...and the A10's are for puzzy's...any fcuking retard can reload on that piece of shiat...but it was that fcuking boomer that really did the trick...man that was a fcuking shiat job..bunch of fat rednecks trying to control the landing...wow..I'm glad we some smart idiots working behind the scenes or we would all be dead..fcuking idiots...ROTF
LK - When I was active duty one of the things I did was work as the LSO (Landing Signal Officer) onboard an aircraft carrier. The first time I saw a plane coming in for a landing I nearly craappeeeddd my pants... Of course then I moved up in rank and became the AirBoss...
Planes are an amazing thing!...here we talk about "dangerous jobs", but actually flying is the safest way to travel!...COMMERCIALLY!...
Obviously being in the military is the dangerous "job" of all, physically and mentally!...yeah today could be Hawaii, BUT tommorrow and the next 1-2 years could be HELL in some HELL HOLE place far away from home, dodging bullets, bombs, and 5 yr olds with grenades with your name written on them!
I agree! The military is by far the most dangerous job today. I think close behind it has to be law enforcement with firefighting third. I was amazed to read the statistics on police officers who during a routine stop had been killed. No such thing as routine anymore.
True about cops and firefighters, depending on the city and location......some have it made, and others face danger alot
most cops I find are azzholes, who were school bullies and still are, with little education...but thats NOT true of all, I do have some cop friends....little crime here, no murders, violent crimes, etc...mostly traffic things, and busting kids for no bicycle helmuts..lol
I have many fireman friends, they are all cool...work hard, have 1-2 other jobs or own side business due to their on/off schedules... and in my area , no home fires and no apartments or 2 story homes...just some brush fires..
Always gonna be bad apples in any profession. My experience with officers here is that a lot of them were opposite of what you mentioned LK. They were usually smaller guys in high school who got picked on. So now that they have authority, they become the azzholes that they use to despise in school.
My guess would be a moderater-ADMIN for this forum. Think about it we get a email or a response then POOF their are gone never heard from again....I have seen it several times......makes you wonder
