i captured an important event on two different cameras - one Digital 8 and a borrowed DV. now i want to edit it in my computer. what is the best way to translate her tapes to D8? is there a cord to attach our cameras or do we have to go to a shop that will do it for us? suggestions

You need a firewire card and two cables. If you are running XP download Movie Maker II and edit inside your computer.
Each hour will be from 2 to 20 GB each so you are going to need a large hard drive. Once edited you can push it back to a new tape via firewire to either camera.
Pinacle Systems also sells some card/software combos starting at $100 on sale.
Hope this helps.

thank you derek... does this mean that i can't attach the two cameras to each other so i can get everything into dig8 format for editing?

Right. There needs to be some type of editing equipment in between. Some cameras can connect directly to firewire harddrives though. DV and D8 use exactly the same coding. That's why you can dump the finished product to either camera
