I am going to use the stage between a gemini pt-2000 with a stanton trackmaster mm cartridge and an MPC 2000XL. I'm not really looking for hi-end because my turntable nor cartridge is of a quality that i believe would benefit from extremly hi end amplification and it's not priority of mine enough to make that so. One problem that i've run into though when i had a Dynaudio Zphono on loan from the local hi-fi was that the gain on the output was too much for what i'm trying to use it for. I would say it was at least 10db too hot. The output of the Dynaudio I believe was 2 volt. So I'm wondering what can I get that won't be ridiculously noisy or just plain ridiculously awful sounding that runs a bit less than 2 volts so it doesnt overload the Mpc's outputs. |

I mean there are tons of cheap phono stages on ebay, i'm just trying to see if you guys have found any distinction between any of them and if they are going to be pushing out more than 2 volts, i'm really looking for probably about 1 volt. |

Here is a lengthy comparison of several phono amps, including the previously suggested TCC TC-400: http://www.audioxpress.com/reviews/media/403hansen2090.pdf |

It works OK with the supplied 12v wall wart, but I run mine off of 12v 4 amp SLA battery. This improves its performance in sound quality significantly. I prefer the TC-754 over the built-in phono section of my old NAD integrated amplifier. The TC-754 also has a volume control so you could adjust the output level as necessary. I did have to spend a lot of time eliminating an annoying low level hum which persisted even with careful grounding. I traced the hum to my VCR, which must be disconnected from my system to remove the hum completely. |
