If you are getting Canadian, you are probably pointing your dish 91 degrees west and you box is scanning nimiq1.
To get american, point your dish at either 110 deg west or 119 deg west - or point a dual lnb at both. Scan on echo 6/8 (110 west) and/or echo 7 (119 west).
If your dish is pointed at a satellite and your receiver is set on a DIFFERENT satellite, the receiver will still scan in the channels from the satellite you are POINTING at - not the satellite the receiver is set on. So you will see signal strength and it will lock onto the satellite you have set your receiver on, but actually it's locked onto the WRONG satellite and you end up scanning in the WRONG channels!
If you are pointed at 91w, then you need to swing your dish 19 degrees to your right (from behind the dish) if you are close to the east coast, to get to 110w. And 110 is slightly lower on the horizon. Another 9 degrees west will get you 119.
