Hey everyone. This should be a quick and easy question for you guys. I have a:

-mtx thunder 4122 2-channel amp (30rms x2 4ohm)
(60rms x2 2ohm)
-crunch Pzi2250 2-channel amp(250x2 4ohm)
(500x2 2ohm)
*note the crunch is not in rms ratings and it was never stated on the box nor any spec sheet

And I want to power a 60rms JL VR5.25 coaxials.

WHICH AMP WOULD BE BEST IN THIS SITUATION?

The lower power rating and clean output MTX
Or the higher power rating cheap brand CRUNCH

Thanks for the help.

the mtx will work fine.. it's putting out twice the power of any head unit (or close to twice) and since you're using the amp for your coaxils, I'd go with the cleaner amp anyways :-)

you just need to control the gain, that's all, the crunch might put 250w rms... But you pay for quality not for watts"

Ok I installed the MTX amp and it's definately A LOT better then running off the 22rms from the pioneer HU. But the problem now is that the JL VR5.25 coaxials seem to distort prematurely when I crank it up. What kind of bass blockers should I go out and shop for? I'm running a kicker 12" L7 to take care of the bass, which I will be upgrading to a Resonant engineering HC 12" as soon as I get the enclosure made.

How low do you have those JL's tuned? You should not make them go lower than 80hz (thats with a 12db x-over).

I already have the high pass selected on the mtx. Although I don't have the option to tweak the frequency for the high pass on the mtx. I just found the rms rating for the crunch amp, rated at 150rms per channel 4 ohm load. I guess I'll try hooking up the crunch and see if it does any good. Afterall, crunch is part of maxxsonics, which makes Hifonics amps. If I do hook up the crunch, seeing that if it does push 150rms,... will that do any harm seeing that the JL coaxials are only 60rms? Thanks for the help guys.
