For headunits, Alpine seem to be a great brand to go with. Along with Alpine the Eclipse headunits are nice, but sometimes depending on your amp (if you're using an external amp) the 8V preouts can be a bit much. But alpine are nice. I personally own a JVC, and I'm very pleased with it. Brands I've seen that seem to work best for me so far are
JVC, ALPINE, PANASONIC, ECLIPSE(Might be overkill)
Although many of the sony's make look attractive in best buy, they're just not a well built product.
Donald is right, but if you're on a tight budget and looking for a good entry-system, sony has some HU's to get a bargain. don't be blinded by optical pleasures (everyone has to admit, sony's design is mostly up there), you still get only mid range, but good midrange at an affordable price. I owned a CDX-MP40 & there is no bad word I would leave for this one, especially for the price I bought it. ...but in case you should be serious about having a real good HU, you should go 100% after Donalds list
Well the thing is that I just have 2 speakers right now, i dont think they are stock otherwise they kick butt now! I plan on gettin a Deck then addin two speakers with a sub and an amp at a later time. I heard from my friends on Alpine so I might go with them.

I have an Alpine myself and since you are planning on upgrading for an amp later, meanwhile you will enjoy the powerful internal amps of the Alpines. not to mention their outstanding sound quality which is considered one of the best on the market. so it looks like you are in fact serious about getin some decent sound in you car...welcome to the club

The model im gettin for an Alpine Deck is the CDA-9831. Its goin to cost me $420 CND including Install which is a good deal. I plan on getting 4 Sparco seat to replace my old ones. Then replace the dash, paintjob, basic body kit, shoes, amp, sub, speakers. I dont want to make it look 2 fancy. Just something to stand out.
sound like a lot of work in front of you. the 9831 will suit you fine for sure.
p.s.:is canada so small that you just found the canadian corolla club? I mean something like toronto corolla club would be nice as a start too don't you think? or is it just an internet club?
