this is a c/p from atr-killer from dsscentral..

There has been a problem a few people have had with the new viewsat flash, it takes longer for the new flash to install into the chip after downloading from the computer and some people have unplugged or turned off the master power switch in their viewsat before it has completed the install. The viewsat now reboots itself twice during the install procedure, you must wait for it to fully complete or you will have a dead viewsat.

Ideal procedure to flash viewsats, set factory default, apply flash, WAIT for it to complete. Set up menus, scan channels, wait for key to update, enjoy TV. Following this procedure will help insure that your viewsat gives you many happy flashes.

If something did get messed up and your viewsat is dead ... do not despair ... try the following

prceedure for dead like viewsats to revive them

1. try loading factory bin first
2. load current bin
3. check settings then F1 your sats agian

if this don't work do the following

if you have one, or have access to one, get another viewsat
1. load working viewsat with factory bin file
2. once loaded hook up cable to dead receiver with power from back switch to off
3. on working unit hooked up to tv do the following
menu>>>installations>>>>receiver upgrade
choose main software and click ok
(you will see a progress window)
4. turn dead unit on from back switch
5. the progress bar should move indicating dead unit is being programmed
if it doesn't check to make sure you are using null modem cable and it is firmly in place on both units

if this don't work then send it in to Viewsat to get fixed

also...another c/p from dsscomunity

Clones into true VS's, also works for dead (true and clone) VS's

The stc-isp progy worked fine for me , many times, (first time on my box).
You must follow the instructions. Skip the port test. Before starting, move the jumpers located inside the box (front right) behind the display from the factory default left position to the right. Set the progy to MCU 12C1052 (20C1052 if the proess fails, it hasn't - yet - for me), load the viewsatsam(boot).hex.

ex: jumpers, default, ||| to load, |||

Once done, and rebooted, unplug your box and move the jumpers back to the left. Load the most recent factory boot *.pgm. AVOID the v2061, it has a small problem.

Now check your remote with the box, all should be working now. BTW, after the process, you will see '0000' don't freak! It's the clock, it starts at midnight!

Now install your (known) good fix and today's opkey. Set the clock to your area's GMT (-5 east), DST to auto - your EPG will now fill up. Blind scan your sats. If all was done in the proper order, WATCH TV...

*Also, if you GOOGLE the stc-isp progy, there is a newer version v3.5, same steps.

I posted an 'all_in_one.rar' and a 'do_it_yourself.zip' on this site and many other sites... READ _ READ _ READ!

here is the link directly to this post AND this file!...remember to remove the * in the .C*OM in link...and register FREE at dsscommunity.c*om

This cannot be stressed enough to Viewsat users!

"Some probs are from users not waiting long enuff after flashing. The unit now has an extra step involved. When finished it will say END, then 0000, then boot, then END, then back to last channel or 0000. You must wait till this process finishes before unplugging. Unplugging while it is finishing causes the no LED failure.

Mine kept stopping at 21%, then going to "end", then to 0000, then back on and to a channel..., finally Idownloaded a bin from another site, it went through with no probs. Thought I just downloaded a bad bin at first. I stopped it 3 times at 21%. Had too though, wouldnt go any further. Got lucky I guess...
