I don't own a VS, so their fix means nothing to me. Having said that, I must give some props when it is due.
Took them about 5 days for a cardless fix for what appears to be a tough ECM. Well done!
The next question has to be what this means for the future? I suspect DN will try one more mega ECM, and if VS nails it again, they would be forced to declare Rom102 as fully compromised. A card swap will be inevitable.
But, even with a card swap, a $180 for a new VS would be a good buy. A card swap will take a long time to finalise, so you would get your money's worth.
Last week people were speculating how high plastic prices would go if FTA remained down; this week we will start to ask how high a VS will go if everyone else (FTA) stays down. They have proved that they can release fixes fast, and that means bigger sales.
Bottom line is...financially, If U are into hacking DN and Bev, purchasing a GENUINE Viewsat ($159) now will pay for itself within 1-2 months, depending on how much PPV's and sports packages U watch....compared to paying for equivalent cable or satellite..what will cost U is SOME TIME, to learn and READ how to setup and use the receiver..
and Viewsat has proven itself the past 3 ECM's as the first and best software provider that will keep U watching TV..no other receiver manufacturer even comes close to Viewsat in support..
AMEN!!! I wish everyone would buy a VS! If you r brand new to the FTA game, would take no more than 2 hrs of reading, then u would be able to set up and program ur own box!! EASY!!
I own a Fortec lifetime Ultra and a Viewsat Extreme ... also i sub to Bell Express View. I would recomand buying a Viewsat! But I am not giving up on my fortec just yet. BL may come up with something soon . If not.. at least we have locals on fortec/pansat.. etc...it's better than nothing at all.
