I recently bought an HP Pavilion DV4224tx and it worked great for the first week but now its going really slow, programs slow down and freeze and stuff. Also the fan seems to be running the whole time where as it was hardly running at all before. All i have done with the laptop is put 2000 songs on it, installed a few programs and tried to burn a dvd with dvd shrink.

Can you guys think of anything that I can do to fix this or at least find out whats doing it?
Thanks

Remove the DVD shrink and don't burn anymore DVDs on the laptop. They eat up a lot and slow down your laptop. How much RAM do you have?

It's got 1Gb Ram with the 5400Rpm.

I only tried 1 dvd then took it off when it didn't work. surely I should be able to burn dvd's without killing my laptop???

Are you using internet explorer? Get firefox.

You probably have it filled with spyware and viruses.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of firefox? is it free? is it easy to use? Do I get rid of internet explorer once I get it?
Thanks

The only disadvantages I can think of are some (and I mean FEW) websites might not fully work on it.

Other than than that, it doesn't use ActiveX which downloads all of the spyware and viruses. It has tabbed browsing, a massive amount of VERY useful extensions, and ultimately, faster surfing speeds.

You can get rid of internet explorer, but I wouldn't suggest it because of the websites you might need to visit that don't support firefox(one of the few important ones is the windows update site).

I found out what the problem was with my laptop. It was the program DVDshrink, once I installed it on my laptop, the day after everything went really slow so I unistalled it, it didn't fix the problem straight away but the next day everything was fine. This is anoying because it means I have to install and uninstall it everytime i want to burn a dvd. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I dont know maybe do you need contact dvd shrink support, im using dvd shrink in two laptops, and severals pc from my clients and do not have any problem.
Check if your copy is original of shrink, you can try with another version too.

dvd shrink takes up to many resources you must close all programs and make sure its the only one running.
