i have 62HM94, connected to DVD player, 16:9, progressive output. On FULL picture setting, i still get black bars above and below the movie and have to switch to theater 1 or 2. if the aspect ratio of screen is 16:9, i don't understand why do i get bars at all on FULL setting.

I connected my Samsung DVD HD-850 to my Toshiba 46HM84 using the HDMI cable that came with it. I then attached a digital optical cable to my receiver so i could get dolby digital sound. I changed the audio out setting to bitstream from PCM on the DVD player. When i did this and tried to play a movie, the TV has a pop up that says "HDMI audio not supported", or something to that effect. When i take the HDMI off and connect the DVD to the TV by component, i can only get a resolution of 720, which defeats the whole purpose of having this upconverting DVD player. When i turn the audio out setting back to PCM, the picture comes up fine, but i can only get Dolby Pro Logic sound. Is anyone else having this problem, and if so,can you please tell me if there is a way and how to connect my DVD player to my TV using the HDMI so I can get Dolby Digital 5.1 sound out of my Home Theatre System.

RAJ G,

Some movies have an aspect ratio of greater than 16:9 (which is ~1.78:1). I have seen a lot of movies that are 1.85:1 or greater. These movies will typically show with black bars on top and bottom. Take a look at the aspect ratio on the back of the DVD box. If it is greater than 1.78:1, it will show with black bars.

RAJ G,

I found this link that may help explain the bars better: http://archive.avsforum.com/avs-vb/history/topic/332900-1.html

Merbicide,

You want bitstream on your receiver as PCM only gives you Dolby 2.0 (i.e. pro logic). Your receiver has to have the dolby decoder to output 5.1. I'm not sure why your TV is displaying HDMI audio not supported but you should be able to turn off the HDMI audio output from the DVD player since you are using optical output to the receiver. The TV will not pass 5.1 from the optical ouput to your receiver if you are using the HDMI audio input from your player to your TV.

Merbicide, it doesn't matter what resolution you output from the DVD player since the native resolution is 720p it will convert any other resolution to 720p. If using HDMI it should be set to 720p so there is no other scaling taking place in the display.

Everyone,
AFter contacting Samsung, i was informed that getting only video to come through the HDMI is a definite problem with the HD-850 that Samsung knows of and is working on. They are probably going to create some firmware to upload on the dvd players to fix that problem. Just wanted to inform everyone so they wouldn't spend the money. A friend bought the Toshiba equivalant upconvering dvd player i am going to try today. I will post if there is any difference in that.

Have a toshiba 52hmx94. in the Midwest using comcast. fantastic picture..comcast had to get software update from toshiba to make the cable card work... I still can't get tv guide on screen even with the motorola PCMCIA card, so Tosh still has a problem there...

I have the 46HM94 and have been very pleased with the HD performance and DVD performance. I think less of the non HD channels on Comcast digital cable.
However, the lamp failed this week after just over 6 months, and my expensive DLP is now DOA (deceased on it's a$$).
Toshiba America says they are "very sorry" I am having a problem, and they will replace the lamp since the TV is less than a year old and they have to. That is, they would replace it if they had one, which they don't. They really can't say when any lamps might be available.
Wow, what great technology for the money! My lamp was set to low (natural bright) in order to extend lamp life. Ha Ha.
If these lamps blow every 6 months, the value of DLP is a joke, with a lamp over $250. Meanwhile, I think my warranty period should be extended by the number of days, weeks, or months that I am unable to use the TV.

TOSHIBA WARRANTY STINKS - I have a 52HM84 the bulb is bust after 8 months about 600 hours instead of the estimated 8,000 and Toshiba has no bulb for the last 25 days and still waiting a bit extreme for $3000 TV and warranty repair - I wonder if Toshiba has some defect that the bulbs are going after about 6 months and they are running short on them.

I wonder how many others are in the same boat because from what customer service said it seems to to be an epidimic they are ordering 10,000 bulbs. The fact is how many people would have bought this TV knowing that it needs a new bulb every 600 hours instead of every 8,000 say every 6 months rather than 6 years and Oh you don't have a TV for a month while Toshiba finds a lamp. Wonder if some attoreny out there thinks its worth a class action as one ticked off customer I'd want to go after Toshiba and throw the book at them. I think Toshiba needs to extend the Warranty on the lamp not for just down time but for 5 years so as to get the estimated 8000 hours (4 hours a day ).

AFTER MY EXPERIENCE I WOULD NOT BUY THIS TV EVEN THOUGH THE PICTURE IS GOOD - I BOUGHT DLP FOR RELIABILITY HELL I COULD GET A PLASMA IF I WANTED A HEADACHE

Vic, nothing is perfect and unfortunately you happened to have one of the few that has failed. If you think about the vast number of displays that are sold there are bound to be a few failures. With that being said the parts should be available and you shouldn't have to wait that long for a replacement. I am very pleased with my 62HMX94 and even if the bulb did go bad I wouldn't regret my buying decision. Toshiba is one of the few DLP manufacturers that warrant their bulb for a year.

Greetings,

Yesterday I received a firmware update for my 52HM94 from Toshiba (Seine 1.50). Does anyone know what specific problems this version is supposed to address?

Max Cpl,

The main issues relate to cable cards and either the inability to acquire channels or failure to map the digital channels. There also is supposed to be some improvement in the TVGOS relating to corruption in the packets causing the TV Guide to reset and lose the listings.

i have had the 52hmx84 for a month or so and love it. hd signals from comcast are sweet except i don't get tnthd yet. anyway... i had a some questions.

the first is on picture in picture. i can only use this feature with two different inputs... meaning cable and dvd. or cable and xbox. how do i get cable and cable? do i need to run another set of video cables from the cable box to the tv? right now i got a set of component cables running to the hd 1 slot and my xbox in the hd2.

i also don't get any picture on that on-screen menu that'll let you set your favorites. all i get is snow. my comcast dvr/hd receiver has a p-i-p setting on the remote, too, that does nothing.

anyway... any help would be great.

so far i like this tv a lot except i find myself adjusting the pic settings on the inputs too often. for some reason the "save" doesn't work for me. sorry, i'm a newbie here.

tia, tyler

I have just installed the Seine 1.5 firmware but still can't tune Comcast channels or TVGOS. I am waiting to hear from both Comcast and Toshiba. Does anyone have any advice on getting this combo to work? I tried resetting cable card but it didn't help.

Richard, if you never got your cable card to work prior to the firmware update it may not be provisioned. Mine worked as soon as I updated the firmware. I would schedule Comcast to come out and try to get the card provisioned again.

If folks are going to spend this amount on a tv I would sugest getting extended warranty packages from your dealer.

I purchased my 52" at Best Buy and had to return the t.v. twice for new ones. No issue, no hassle. Personally, I think the DLP is o.k great PQ on HD but the other channels are lame.
*************************************************
One quick question. Does anyone else notice that when someone holds up a picture on t.v or in a movie, that picture seems pixalated?

Hi..

I just got one of the new Toshiba HD lines (it's 62HM15, from Costco)..according to customer support it will be renamed to 62hm85 or 62hm95 when it is launched nationwide.

I see a lot of user's have issues with their TV guide and symbio in particular. I was wondering if anyone is interested in selling their symbio. I would like to get one, but it's currently a bit too pricey for me to buy from the stores.

I will monitor this posting for the next few weeks, to see if there are any interested parties.

Also, if this is against your policies on this forum, please ignore my message...and I will not post any further comments regarding this.

Thanks

Hi - 62HM15 with stand at Costco is $2999. The main difference that I found btw the 15 and the 84 is that the 15 has a built-in HD tuner. the 62HM84 is $2499 plus $200 shipping. I plan to use Comcast's HD cable box so I'm probably opting for the 62HM84 and save the $300. PS - Costco has a total satisfaction guarantee. If you buy it online and arent happy, you can return it to a local warehouse for a full refund.

NewDLP, thanks for the info. If the stand is included, I guess that price ends up to the same. Is this TV pc compatible?

I just looked at this TV at Costco (Tosiba 62HM15) the display model had an excellent clear picture on it, they are still selling for $2999.99 with the stand, it has 2 HDMI imputs and seems to be a excellent buy?? The only disapointment was I was looking for a model to wall mount, which this one can not!

Any 62HM15 owners I'd appreciate your input as to how you like it and any quirks or problems??

One additional question in particular, as I am also new to this technology is what is a symbio how does it function??, I saw that it has a TV guide and assumed its simular to the cable guides supplied by your cable company??

Anonymous,

Toshiba warrants the bulb for one year just like the rest of the set. It is a user replaceable item so the warranty only covers the part and you replace it yourself. If you pay for your display with a major credit card company like Visa or American Express they double the manufacturer's warranty. I've heard of a few bulb failures but it seems to be a small minority and not a common problem with these sets.

Capt Ben,

The Symbio is a single tuner DVR that connects to the TV using the firewire inputs. I don't believe it has it's own guide but uses the TVGOS capability of the display to record programs. The TVGOS is a download from Gemstar on the VBI channel (usually PBS) that gives you an IPG similar to what you would get with a cable box. There are still a few bugs in the TVGOS but it has improved in the last few months. My only current problem with TVGOS is edits made to the channel guide revert back to defaults after a few days and it incorrectly turns on channels I don't subscribe to such as Cinemax, Showtime. Starz, and The Movie Channel.

Get any extended warranty possible. I purchased mine from BestBuy and it covers the entire T.V. for 5 years! Even if nothing goes, it is worth the peace of mind for t.v.s at ths price.

My tosh 5284 just started displaying closed captioning without any input from any source that I'm aware of. I called the dealer where I purchased the set, and he said he'd never heard of that happening. He suggested I unplug the set for 20 minutes to allow it to reset; I tried that, but the CC display is still there. Any one know of a different solution?

so the 62HM94 is the same exact model as the 62HM15 from Costco?

I am sorry, I'm completely new to this process/experience. What is the difference in the HM84 and HM94 models? Does one have a built in tuner? What exactly does that mean?

Thanks so much!!!

Hello, this is my first post. I just got a Tosh 62_94, and HD looks great, not too happy with SD but... I am working on that. Anyway, all of the sudden, now everything is zoomed in, even the HD channels, and it doesn't matter if I have it on Natural size, it is still zoomed and I cannot get any normal SD channels to display in 4:3. Any ideas? Thanks... Paul

Paul,

Sounds starnge, is the "auto aspect" turned on? In reference to your SD channels I assume you have a Motorola STB. If so, split the cable feed and send one directly to the ANT1 input on the TV and you will see an improvement in the PQ for SD channels. Of course, you will need to switch to that input when viewing SD programs.

I have a Scientific Atlantic HD DVR box the 8300HD from Time Warner Cable, that is running out HDMI into the TV. Auto Aspect is on, and when I first set it up it was showing SD stations in 4:3 and HD were 16:9 or 4:3 depending on the content. Now everything is zoomed in incuding HD!! So everythin gis getting cut off. I did a reset on the TV, and that did nothing, I am thinking it may be the DVR but I rebooted that and changed every setting there is and none of them affect what I see. I did hook up a separate video RCA cable into Video 1 to see what that did and it does show SD at 4:3 although I think it looks even worse than when viewing SD thru HDMI, which was not great by any means. ~sigh~

I don't have that box but it looks like the # key on the DVR allows you to zoom or stretch the picture. Try toggling it and see if it helps.

I figured it out and yes it is the # key! Apparently my puppy stepped on the remote my son told me, but nothing in the menus let you set the zoom default, in the manual I found the # key thing. Thanks!

I am still trying to get decent SD picture quality though, will S-Video or component cables be the best thing for SD? I have a simple RCA in the yellow video input but it looks worse than thru the HDMI cable..... Thanks gaain.

You can try S-Video for the analog channels but I would say bypassing the set top box with a splitter and connecting that right to your display may give the best PQ for those channels, at least it did for me.

I saw a post about some one picking up the 62hm15 from costco. Is it 1080p or 780p. the new model #'s are 62hm95=780p and 62hm195=1080p and im trying to figure out which model comes in the costco package.

The 62HM15 (same as 62HM95) is 720p actually, like the current models 62HM84 (HD Ready no HD tuner) and 62HM94 which has the built-in HD tuner. The 62hm195 is a 1080p model and is the latest DLP technology, $500 more than a 720p model.

The 2005 Line-up
Toshiba's TheaterWide line of high definition DLP Projection televisions will include screen sizes ranging from 46" to 72". The TheaterWide line will include three 720p models (46HM95 (46"); 52HM95 (52"); 62HM95 (62")) and three 1080p models (56HM195 (56"); 62HM195 (62"); 72HM195 (72")).

46HM95 (July 2005, $2,499.99); 52HM95 (June 2005, $2,799.99); 62HM95 (July 2005, $3,299.99); 56HM195 (August 2005, $3,499.99); 62HM195 (August 2005, $3,799.99); 72HM195 (September 2005, $4,999.99)

J-Hawk, the 62HM15 is a new model and not the same as the 62HM94 although it's the same as the 62HM95 which is the new model replacing the 62HM94.

A built-in HD tuner means the TV has a tuner to receive Digital broadcasts either via cable (if your cable company has cable card available) or over the air (OTA) from an antenna. Without the built-in HD tuner, you can only get HD programs with a separate set-top box tuner ($300 or more) and you have to change channels with the set-top box not the TV. The set top box is connected to the back of the TV like a VCR, or DVD player, and this would be your only option if you got the 62HM84 model.

I just got a email back from toshiba customer support and they said the 62hm15 is the same as the 62hm94, it just has a added HDMI port. So it doesnt have the new talon technology in it that the 62hm95 has.

GregS

so my next question would be, is the new talon technology worth the extra few dollars to go from the 94 to the 95?

I bought the Toshiba 62HM15, $2999.00 the tag says id has a Hd tuner built in. The costco guy says theres one built in, I get home the directon booklet says HD tuner is required?????I took my regular cable box from my room and hook it up and all i get is sound from the HD channels, my Hd box hooked to HDMI works perfect. False advertisment???? Can someone help?

The 62HM15 definitely has an HD tuner. I have that model and the cable is connected directly to ANT1. HD channels work fine. You do need a cable card from your cable provider to enable the channels.
Did you maybe get a 62HM14 or maybe the manuals got mixed? The 62HM14 was sold by Costco up until a few weeks ago and it needed a seperate HD tuner.

I have been considering the 62HMX94 but now the 62hm195 is available. The 195 is about $3000 but you can get the 94 for about $600 less. Is the 1080p worth the additional bucks? Also does anybody have the measurement on the 62HM195. Thanks for any comments.

Unregistered guest
Here was my logic for not buying the 62HM195 (1080p) version:
- Cable broadcast will be a long time before its sent in 1080p. Most programs are produced at 720p (I was told)
- HD-DVDs will be available next year at 1080p on if Blu-ray wins the war. If Toshiba (which has the backing of most of the other big studios except Columbia Pictures) wins as we expect them to, then the HD-DVD format can only hold a full 2hr movie in 720p. So again, I dont see 1080p content available any time soon.
- And if (and when) the 1080p does become available 3-4 yrs down the road, the 62hm195 will be 50% of what they cost today, so I could buy one then.

Keep in mind that even though the 62HM195 will DISPLAY a 1080p signal it CANNOT ACCEPT a 1080p signal so even if you started with a 1080p source it would need to interlace it to 1080i and then the TV would deinterlace it back to 1080p.

I have the DVE (DVD) and I have used it to fine tune my 52HM94 (Toshiba DLP) but I have a question. Since I used the DVD player to play the DVE which is connected via the component video 1 input, how does one tune (say) the HDMI input which is where I have my Motorola/Comcast 6412 STB/DVR connected? My DVD player doesnt have a DVI or HDMI output.

I just got the Toshiba 46HM84. I am using it with an SA4200HD box from Cablevision. I have component cables hooked to the TV. Any tips on the right settings with the SA4200HD and Toshiba DLP?
Right now I have the box set to output 480p, 720p and 1080i. There are also options for pass through, fixed, upconvert 1 and upconvert2. I have it on upconvert 1. BTW on these settings the HD looks great. SD is fine.

I recommend the pass-through for HD so the display handles any scaling necessary. I wish my Motorola had that capability. For SD programming either 480i or 480p should be fine.

I have a Toshiba 46HM94 on order and I am wondering if it is a good idea to get a battery backup for it to protect the bulb against power outages and brief power drops(which my neighborhood has). I have a basic battery backup for my home PC that I bought at Sam's club that works great. Are the $300-400 units that you can buy at retailers really needed?

The other night while watching a movie I noticed a dark spot on the screen, and moving, inside the TV. Upon further investigation I found I had a small bug of sorts inside the set itself that was being broadcast onto the screen. It sounds odd, but has anyone else out there had this problem? I haven't had it happen sense. Could be just a once in a lifetime happening, I guess.

Kdog044,

I finally got the info off the STB. It is a Dish Pro DP811 HD Receiver. I do not see anything that specifically indicates a "pass-thru" feature. However, I did notice that in the owners' manual there is a 8VSB TV Antenna/Cable in jack on the back of the box. The wording in the manual follows:

"This input connection receives programming signals from either local off-air broadcasts in both analog and digital broadcast formats or a cable TV system. Use a coaxial cable to make this connection to an external off-air antenna or a cable TV service. This connector is color coded black. ATTENTION: This input connection can only be used if your receiver is activated with qualifying DISH Network programming."

Any thoughts, comments??

Thanks,

I have the 52hmx94 and love it. I have a Toshiba progressive scan DVD player with component hook-up. It works fine for me and I think is a little cheaper than the HDMI setup, but have yet to see with the HDMI hook-up. How is the PQ for you?. HD is phenomenal isn't it?

i have it now, some fan issue. i have the model quick restart off, so there is no blinking green light. however there is still fan noise after i turned it off...continously not a few minutes, not a few hours. it's not loud but i wonder if that is an intended feature. the only way i can silent the noise is actually unplugging the power. if the fan noise stays on a few minutes it seems normal but not continously....
anyone experiences that.

laichungleung,

There is more than one fan. The lamp fan turns off when the lamp is cool. The one that is on continously most likely is the one for the cable card. Do you have a cable card?

thanks for replying.
No, I don't use cablecard. At some point I thought I was hearing the noise from other AV equipments, like the SA 8300HD, but no, it's from the 46HM95. The noise is not very loud but it's there, NON stop even I turned it off. I emailed toshiba, they have a very succint reply, they say that's normal operation of the set. I just thought when it's off it should be off, not with some fan running 24x7 nonstop. If it runs a few minutes like the manual says so I can totally understand. And I even have the Quick ReStart turned off....To totally quiet the set, I have to unplug it from the power outlet.
thanks for replying.

Hello all. I am finishing my basement and am looking at the toshiba 62" DLP sets.

Question: what does the TALON technology do?

Second question: anyone purchase their set from costco? how was the experience?

Thanks...
Drew

I just purchased the 62HM15 from Costco, it has a Media/Card viewer installed but when I access the install/programs it is not available? Am I doing something wrong?

Lokidrake,

The menu options for the viewer are only accessable when you have the media in the slot (i.e. SD,CF)

"46HM95...i have it now, some fan issue"

Yep, same here. We just bought one and were a little surprised that the fan needs to run constantly. It's very quiet (quieter than a computer fan) and not really a bother but it takes a little getting used to. I emailed Toshiba and they also confirm it's normal. Other than that it's been great so far. Great picture, features, and the "rainbow effect" is minimal.

Just bought a 52HM94 and love the picture.

Same issues like DaveyWavey has. I turned off Quick Start mode and when the TV was turned off, I can hear the noise level reduced. But there is still a very light humming sound (I have to put my head right between the back of the TV and the wall to hear the sound), not sure it's a fan or something else. One more thing, I also noticed that the whole input area in the back, including cable card slot, is always from warm to hot, even in the morning with TV turned off all night. I had a 43" Panasonic lcd projection (without build in tuner) and didn't have this issue. Does this wamr all night thing normal? I don't have a cablecard on the TV

All of the threads on various tvs claim bad experiences with bulb replacement AND SOME NUMEROUS TIMES. i'VE SEEN many difference type of set mentioned but i'm seeking info on toshibas and owners comments on their experiences.

bearcat;

I bought a Tosh 52HM84 after comparing forever the PQ of DLP, LCD, plasma, RP/CRT etc; I thought the Tosh had the best PQ for the $. I had "an issue" with the TV right out of the box but Toshiba fixed things up.

Everything about this DLP is great, far as I'm concerned. There's no rainbow effect that I can see, fan noise is non-existant, no screen artifacts, or other issues. SD is pretty good as long as you are at "normal" viewing distance. HD and DVD are amazing.

I have a Comcast cable box with component video to the TV and optical audio to a Panny SA-XR70 digital receiver. A Tosh SD5980 DVD player is hooked to the receiver and thru to the TV with HDMI. It's a pretty good setup, so far.

My only complaint thus far: HD programming sucks big time; I can't believe what little programming that's available gets wasted on "Wheel of Fortune" and a lot of other game-show and sit-com junk.

I am getting a 62hm95 this coming week and i am trying to figure out if i should get the cablecard or a cable box. The people over at Cox say that the cablecards are trash and to use a digital box. Anyone here using a cable card on their 95 series tv that can let me know how the cable card is working and who your cable provider is. THX

Greg, we recently bought a Toshiba 46HM95 and we're currently wrestling with trying to get the cable card to work with Time Warner. We'd love to be able to get it working since our old box heated up way too much and took up too much space. But honestly it seems that it's a new technology that isn't worked out yet and the cable companies don't seem to have much incentive to get it working as they'd much rather get you to rent their boxes. Good luck.

Greg,

I had some early issues getting my cable card to work but after two firmware updates from Toshiba everything has been fine with my 62HMX94. Make sure you have at least 1.5.0 firmware and if not call Toshiba and they can send you an update via SD card. Here are a few pros and cons to cable card.

Pros:
1. No monthly fee (at least for me with Comcast)
2. Better PQ for analog channels
3. TV handles all conversions necessary for HD.
4. No space taken up by STB.

Cons:
1. No DVR capability like the Motorola 6412 (unless you purchase the Symbio which is a single tuner model)
2. No automatic PPV, Sports Packages, or OnDemand (some providers can support these functions by ordering through the telephone)
3. No TV Guide (the Gemstar TVGOS provides this with the Toshiba sets so it's not an issue)

I actually have both the DVR and cable card and if it wasn't for the dual tuner DVR capability I would cancel the STB. Once you have it you won't want to part with it.

follow-up on my fan issue. only if toshiba can be a bit clearer on fan noise and blinking green light on their manuel. i called up Toshiba, the tech told me the fan is for the built-in tuner. Since my 46HM95 comes with tuners so the fan has to be on all the time. In my mind it really doesn't explain the fan because my CRT has a tuner too but there is no fan noise...anyway that's the explanation I got. I think in part because it allows you to record program when the TV is "off", the TV guide DVR stuff, so the tuner has to be on all the time. (I assume the HM84 or no tuner model won't have this 24x7 running fan then).

Hi guys.

I just got a tosh 62HM95. It will be delivered 9/17. I am excited of course.

Question: What is a good DVD to use with the set and what output should i use for optimal quality? DVI/HDMI/component?

I want to get the dvd and cables to be ready to go...(Also where is a good place to get cables? They were way overpriced at the store)

Thanks!

Drew VW,

That depends on what you want to spend and if you want a progressive or upconverting player. Ideally, the HMDI or DVI will give you the best quality as there isn't any D/A and A/D conversions. For decent standard progressive players under $150 check out the Sony DVP-NS775V and Pioneer DV-578A. For upconverting players under $300 look at Oppo DV971H, Sony DVP-NS975V, and the Panasonic DVD-S97. Around $1000 you find brands like Denon 3910, Onkyo SP1000, and Pioneer DV-59AVi or top of the line players like the Denon 5910 for around $3500.

Drew VW,

There are many places to buy good quality cables such as Blue Jean Cables,RAM Electronics, or Pacific Cable to name a few.

Drew, check out monoprice.com. There have been people on this forum that have purchased these and they worked great. Plus the price is unbeatable. For HDMI, I would stick with the heavier 24 AWG though.

I think DLP4me! is a SHILL.

SHILL= Someone who works for a company that cruises the Internet forums doing "damage control", but says they are not associated with any company.

A SHILL I guess could also be someone that has a vested financial interest, such as someone who owned stock, or had a business or whatever to keep the gravy ride from ending.

New poster needing some advice. I just bought the 62hm95 this weekend and love it so far. The problem I had was that I was under the impression from the salesman that I could hook a PC us to the tv (I would be playing games and using it as a DVR). In big bold letters the manual states 'do not connect a PC to this tv' several times. Does anyone know if I am using component or even just a plain video-in connection why a PC would damage the tv or the computer? I really want to connect my PC to it...its half the reason I bought a big tv in the first place, and if the box for this tv wasnt so gigantic, and almost impossible to get it back to the store I might consider returning it. Does anyone have any input?? Thanks for your help.

Well let me add to my statment from earlier so it doesn't sound like I just went out and big tv on a whim. Yes of course I did my research. I was choosing between this tv and the Samsung HLR5667W which did have a VGA port. I also realized the 62hm95 didn't have VGA port, but it did have a HDMI, component, or even a simple Video-in port that I could easily hook my PC up to since my video card has all those outputs. I did not realize that upon opening the instruction manual that it would say don't connect to a PC. So I am sorry the way I came off earlier. I haven't found too many message boards on the topic so I thought you guys could help. Thanks.

"Yes of course I did my research"

Then you knew from the start that the Samsung works as a monitor and has a VGA port. It's in most any online description. You still need the right VGA drivers for your video card to size to the screen properly.

The Toshi has one hell of a description, but never states it's a monitor and has no VGA port.
Case closed.

If your PC has an s-video out the set will display from that type of output.
