The commercial offerings usually have very expensive drivers designed to work in free air to deal with the loss of acoustical suspension and electronic EQ to help the bass response. |

I read somewhere that it takes a fairly powerful amp to work those R 909's so I suppose that applies to others of similar design considering your comments on the drivers. |
Gold Member Username: Timn8terSeattle, WA USA Post Number: 1068 Registered: Dec-03 | Dipoles aren't typically power hogs but it depends on the drivers used, of course, and how much equalization is applied. The R 909 is reported to have sensitivity of 89db and 4 ohm nominal impedance which isn't too bad. You can be fairly confident the impedance will dip under 4 ohms so a stout power supply would definitely be in order. |
