I'm hooking up a new HDTV and home theater with cable box. The Panasonic home theater SC-HT740 has only RCA left and right jacks, and an HDMI jack labeled "output." It has no coaxial or optical inputs. So am I correct that there is no way to send 5.1 channel sound into the home theater unit? Or is the HDMI bidirectional, so I can feed 5.1 sound into that jack? The manual and Panasonic Help Line say just hook up the RCA jacks.

Thanks for your reply, which confirms my findings from more investigation today. I hadn't understood that there's a difference between Dolby Digital 5.1, which requires digital input, and the more elementary Pro Logic, which I now realize is all this system can do. I also learned that the unit has the HDMI output because that's necessary to take full advantage of the upconversion DVD player video it has.
