I was told by the dealer I bought all my recievers from that it is legal only in Canada. Since FTA is for Direct TV, Dishnet etc ... It's not legal to subscribe to for us CANADIANS. Same goes for EXress VU for the Amaricans. It's not legal for them to subscribe to it. I also heard that Express VU isn't part of FTA. IS this true?
FTA is supposed to be used just for that, Free To Air transmissions. That is completely legal. As soon as you alter your receiver to received encrypted signals, without paying for them, then you are breaking the law.
FTA has nothing to do with countries..Free To Air channels are abundant on many satellites..FTA receivers are legal because they are made for the reception of those unscrambled unencypted FTA channels that are sent from various satellites..Dishnet and Bev send scrambled encrypted channels which the hackers have figured out how to unscramble by modifying the FTA receiver using various software...Once you apply software intended to descramble Dishnet or Bev channels, then your FTA receiver is illegal in BOTH the US and Canada..Yes you can be prosecuted and fined. Dishnet commonly prosecutes both Canadians and Americans for stealing their signals..Bev up to now has only prosecuted Canadians..
