Hello all.I have been avoiding posting because I have been trying to read alot and take notes and not ask too many dumb questions.I understand the frustration with repeat questions.I did alot of the emulation with dave, just bought the equipment and read how to do and relied on you smarter guys for the bins.I am new to fta though.Thanks.
I have not found much info on my basic question, which is...
I have a 2002 toshiba satellite laptop computer that I just realized does not have a db9/rs232 connector on it.I thought it was,but never needed it.Turns out it's just 15 pin vga monitor conn.
Is there any way to use a usb or parallel port and conv. to the rs232 to update my receiver which is a new original pansat 2700a?
I apologize if this is a stupid question.
I have been trying to read, read, read, and maybe I missed this info.Sorry.And I gotta say there are alot of brains on here and you guys could conquer the world and for sure charlie and the rest if we all just got along a little better.I sure as heck appreciate any help,no matter who it's from. Thanks again.

There were some posts about this subject. Speaking for myself, I have been able to use a USB/serial adaptor to upload from my Laptop to my 2700. But some people have had problems trying to do the same thing.

I purchased a DB9-to-USB converter off ebay for $10 bucks, it came with a USB cable as well. However, the DB9 adapter of the converter is male, which is the same as that of the satellite box. Just had to spend $3 more bucks to buy a DB9 female-to-female converter at Fry's, and I have been able to upload to satellite box from my laptop USB port.
If you do this, remember to assign a correct COMP number for the converter when you connect it to your laptop (by going to Control Pannel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > COMP - only appear upon connection), and the same # in the satellite loader. The reason is because the driver software will automatically assign the last number for the converter (which is something like 30) while the satellite loader only accepts COMP# from 1 to 10.
Goodluck.
