M.Steeps Unregistered guest | A word of caution. It bothers me that many of sites today try to sell their wares with little or no after-sales service. Many of the unlock codes I've had the misfortune of using needed different firmware versions that were never mentioned beforehand - or worse, simply didn't work at all. I tried on numerous occasions to follow up a dud code derived from a prominent site and to date, had zero response from them. I mention this only because I recently became a member of DVDEXPLODER , a website that actually produced a working code for my JVC HR-HV2! - an unlock I'd been searching for relentlessly. Although the unlock was in fact tricky to implement, the website staff helped me all the way until the player became region free. They're a great bunch of technically minded and friendly people, I assure you. Here's a link to there main page - www.dvdexploder.com. If you need some serious advice, I'd strongly advise talking to them, as they really know their stuff. There's a thread on on this board somewhere concerning Ebay DVD code scams that highlights the hit and run attitude of lots of sites. Once you've handed over your cash, you receive a product where 50% of the codes are useless and are laid out by a 10 year old that has difficulties giving simple instructions. Avoid Ebay at all costs, unless all you want is a list of outdated codes backed up with no customer service help by the vendor. And yes, I did give a bad review to the vendor on that occasion. Just to say, be careful how you handle your DVD player and use a trusted website to make the thing multi-region. I've mentioned a reputable research site here already, let's hope they can keep up the good work. Please excuse my rant, I've had it up to my here with poor advice and general Internet skulduggery. |

This is that I did: - Press "Power" to turn on the player. - Press "System Menu" key to enter Set Up menu. - Move to "Preference Page" using arrow keys to the left or to the right. - Press the following sequence in the remote control: 135566 - A menu indicating "Region Code" will appear. - Change region using arrow keys to top or down. I ended up using a special remote and disc from www.multiregionupgrades.com. I think the same is true for Panasonics, etc as they have them listed as well. All that matters to me is that its now multiregion! |

It's true that Panasonics can be hard to unlock, unless you use a pre-made hacking device of some sort. If you want one of these then see the post above. However, there are alternatives to unlocking Panasonics, Sonys, JVCs etc. The answer - simple handset codes. I got my Panasonic A112 unlocked from www.dvdexploder.com and they have others at hand as well if you need them. It's a good site if want your particular machine researched personally. I just wish dvd manufacturers and vendors would have the guts to stand up to movie distributers and say - to hell with you, I'm going to sell multi-region machines where and when I want! I'm sure Andrew would agree! |

His claim that you can unlock a Panasonic model by codes entered by its own handset (which, incidently you have to pay the site for!) is complete RUBBISH as any search on the internet will proove. The ONLY WAY to unlock a Panasonic model manufacturered since 2002 is via a factory service remote (NOT THE PLAYERS OWN REMOTE OR CODES), which most panasonic dealers will do for you, or which you obtain from a modification company such as www.multiregionupgrades.com, www.dvdchips.com, www.multiregion.co.uk, etc. Want more proof? His DVD-A112 (1999 NTSC model!)which he claimed he unlocked this way, can only be unlocked by a Panasonic TS20 service firmware disc, not even a factory service remote! It is not even PAL compatible (its mising the additional video ram that the UK version had) so it cannot even read PAL discs once modded, NTSC discs only! Finally, still in doubt of what I say? Then search the net and newsgroups for the website he keeps "recommending", and enjoy the comments.... IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBE TO HACK A PANASONIC VIA CODES ENTERED BY ITS OWN REMOTE. You have been warned. |

Your authorised JVC dealer may be able to supply this for you (for a fee) failing that, one of the many reputable modification companies can supply the modification to you (such as www.multiregionupgrades.com, www.dvdchips,com, ect) you`ll find a full list via a google search. There is no other way to hack this model other then a firmware upgrade. You CANNOT upgrade a JVC model by entering codes with its own handset so ignore such claims in this thread, its simply not possible! YOU CANNOT HACK A JVC VIA ITS OWN REMOTE CONTROL |

Take a look at the site and I'm sure you'll find it eventually. You could of course have it 'modded', but I wouldn't trust anybody to physically take 'my' Sony apart and mess around with it. Press the DVD button on your remote (the Samsung logo appears) 2. Press the SUBTITLE button on your remote 3. With your remote enter the code corresponding to your current RC setting: so if you are in Australia (region 4), you enter 76884. RC 1: 29334 RC 2: 38767(or 57538) RC 3: 56732 RC 4: 76884 RC 5: 53814 RC 6: 24462 Current RC should be displayed on the top left corner of the screen. (e.g. 04) 5. Press 9 on your remote (Region free) 6. Again press the SUBTITLE button on your remote 7. Open & close the tray TWICE using your remote 8. Power off and then on the unit 9. Enjoy the Region free player |
