Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1315 Registered: Dec-05 | and just to let you know, the loudest noise ever is the pistol crab... makes a noise over 200dB |
Bronze Member Username: Re_babyOkc, Ok Usa Post Number: 43 Registered: Mar-06 | that fits is a car |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1316 Registered: Dec-05 | it does, it fits in a van/suv i believe LOL |
Silver Member Username: TheweaselPost Number: 133 Registered: Mar-06 | that crab is insanely loud. doesn't it kill/stun its prey like that? |
Silver Member Username: LewassBoomfield Hills, MI USA Post Number: 666 Registered: Jan-06 | Word rob, it creates a capitation bubble in the water and when that bubble closes it produces a pretty nasty shock that will kill/stun things that are much bigger than the crab. They say it can be in excess of 200 db's |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1322 Registered: Dec-05 | yea, and in that pocket of air, it gets hotter than the sun... so if we get a system out that exeeds 200dB we could catch the atmosphere on fire, the crab doesn't because it is protected by the ocean but our systems aren't |
Silver Member Username: Extrmndor3Chicago, Ill Us Post Number: 535 Registered: Feb-06 | where can i get information on that crab |
Silver Member Username: LewassBoomfield Hills, MI USA Post Number: 669 Registered: Jan-06 | ^ ^ Hotter than the surface of the sun, and only for a couple milliseconds. Big difference between the surface temp and the core temp. |
Silver Member Username: LewassBoomfield Hills, MI USA Post Number: 670 Registered: Jan-06 | Lilrob - same place you get information on anything, lol. Google. |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1323 Registered: Dec-05 | lol, sorry, my bad lewass, i knew it was for a few milliseconds, but i didn't know it was the sruface, we learn new stuff everyday LOL. yea search pistol crab, idk how to spell it, but i think thats right |
Silver Member Username: LewassBoomfield Hills, MI USA Post Number: 671 Registered: Jan-06 | Yup, I googled it myself after your post "discovery channel" a few days ago. |
Silver Member Username: LewassBoomfield Hills, MI USA Post Number: 672 Registered: Jan-06 | I bet you couldn't have one as a pet, because it would burst it's own aquarium when it got pissed! LOL |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1326 Registered: Dec-05 | LOL!!!!!! the wave would burst the tank everytime it wanted to eat LOL |
Silver Member Username: GeekbikePost Number: 431 Registered: Dec-04 | Pistol crabs may be the loudest animals, but comes nowhere near the loudest sounds ever recorded (300+ dB). |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1329 Registered: Dec-05 | what sound was that? and what was it made by? and btw the crab i think is as big as your hand maybe a little bit bigger |
Silver Member Username: Sw9152Michigan Post Number: 412 Registered: Feb-06 | i read the artical on the crab and i am not sure if i believe it or not. esspecially the spontaneous heat. oh and i tryed google and i can't find any info on shocker neo-sig subs. dont they have insane power handling and get really loud? |
Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 829 Registered: Mar-04 | I think it's still the Pioneer 5000SPL, they were the first to crack 180dB - it took like 13 of them and over 100KW. I think the most impressive was the single dd9510 that did just under 170dB with 5Kw. The 60" could never be driven to its potential. At 90Kw it caused the enclosure to flex like it was a cardboard box. I think the best documented numbers on it was like 155dB at 12 hz. Don't quote me though |
Silver Member Username: DjbeanpoleNaptown, Indiana USA Post Number: 168 Registered: Nov-05 | I was bored and did some searching and this is what I found... it isn't a crab but a Mantis shrimp (is this the same thing???) Good read. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2001/10/1003_SnappingShrimp.html |
Silver Member Username: JakeyplaysbassSt. Louis, MO Post Number: 955 Registered: Jul-05 | i believe there was a volcano that broke the 300dB mark. that much SPL can crack a 1 foot thich piece of concrete 300 miles away. if you go strictly by power the milky way is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10^19)watts. which is around 220 dB...little fun fact. |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1333 Registered: Dec-05 | im not being rude or anything but isn't the discovery channel one of the most trusted sorces of information out there along with CNN? IMO if its on the discovery channel it must be true |

Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1334 Registered: Dec-05 | where did this valcano erupt from? had to be on another planet, i think "Lo" is the moon of Jupitar that is strictly valcanic activity, but im not sure? |
Silver Member Username: Sw9152Michigan Post Number: 417 Registered: Feb-06 | if i remember right the crab moves it claw at 30 m/s, wouldn't it be pretty easy to make an artificial claw and move it faster making a louder noise? |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1336 Registered: Dec-05 | i think its the way the crabs claw is built and the way the claw hits the other one is what makes it make the loud noise, but in theory that should work |

Gold Member Username: CenusHicksville, Ohio Usa Post Number: 1656 Registered: Jan-05 | have you guys ever seen pics from the spot the bomb hit hiroshima, it got so hot that it literally cremated people where they stood, i've seen pics of gray circles on sidewalks, that used to be people, but because of the intnse heat turned into a shadow on the ground. and some1 up there mentioned the neo-sig, that sub can handle pretty much any amp ever made, theres a vid on roe, of it taking either 3000wrms or 4000wrms free air, and nothing happen to it. |
Silver Member Username: DjbeanpoleNaptown, Indiana USA Post Number: 171 Registered: Nov-05 | Knacko that was an excellent list. Some ridiculously loud noises. Awesome stuff. |
Silver Member Username: TheweaselPost Number: 134 Registered: Mar-06 | speaking of wierd sounds i've heard that a 9hz sound is played at professional haunted houses becuase it causes you to feel anxious. also, is it true that a nuclear bomb produces a 0 hz tone or something like that |
Gold Member Username: LexuscoopPost Number: 1339 Registered: Dec-05 | 0Hz?? that would be crazy... i wonder what that would feel like... on that list does it show how loud the A-bombs were? |

Bronze Member Username: NorthomahaPost Number: 18 Registered: Mar-06 | sound can't turn to light, light is made up of photons and soundwaves are not. visible light that we see around us is has a frequency of about .ooo429Hz |
Bronze Member Username: NorthomahaPost Number: 19 Registered: Mar-06 | ^^^^.000429Hz |
Gold Member Username: CenusHicksville, Ohio Usa Post Number: 1676 Registered: Jan-05 | what are u talking about, in my OGT science book it says visible light is 10,000,000,000,000,00hz so your number is off by a little bit, and just for reference, a gamma ray is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000hz. |
Bronze Member Username: NorthomahaPost Number: 22 Registered: Mar-06 | Yea i was off but im lookin in my physics book and is says: visible light ranges from 4x10^14 to 7x10^14 so we were both off, just i was alot more |
