Word rob, it creates a capitation bubble in the water and when that bubble closes it produces a pretty nasty shock that will kill/stun things that are much bigger than the crab. They say it can be in excess of 200 db's :-)

yea, and in that pocket of air, it gets hotter than the sun... so if we get a system out that exeeds 200dB we could catch the atmosphere on fire, the crab doesn't because it is protected by the ocean but our systems aren't

^ ^ Hotter than the surface of the sun, and only for a couple milliseconds. Big difference between the surface temp and the core temp.

I think it's still the Pioneer 5000SPL, they were the first to crack 180dB - it took like 13 of them and over 100KW.

I think the most impressive was the single dd9510 that did just under 170dB with 5Kw.

The 60" could never be driven to its potential. At 90Kw it caused the enclosure to flex like it was a cardboard box. I think the best documented numbers on it was like 155dB at 12 hz. Don't quote me though

I was bored and did some searching and this is what I found... it isn't a crab but a Mantis shrimp (is this the same thing???)

Good read.

i believe there was a volcano that broke the 300dB mark. that much SPL can crack a 1 foot thich piece of concrete 300 miles away.

if you go strictly by power the milky way is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10^19)watts. which is around 220 dB...little fun fact.

if i remember right the crab moves it claw at 30 m/s, wouldn't it be pretty easy to make an artificial claw and move it faster making a louder noise?

i think its the way the crabs claw is built and the way the claw hits the other one is what makes it make the loud noise, but in theory that should work

have you guys ever seen pics from the spot the bomb hit hiroshima, it got so hot that it literally cremated people where they stood, i've seen pics of gray circles on sidewalks, that used to be people, but because of the intnse heat turned into a shadow on the ground.

and some1 up there mentioned the neo-sig, that sub can handle pretty much any amp ever made, theres a vid on roe, of it taking either 3000wrms or 4000wrms free air, and nothing happen to it.

speaking of wierd sounds i've heard that a 9hz sound is played at professional haunted houses becuase it causes you to feel anxious.

also, is it true that a nuclear bomb produces a 0 hz tone or something like that

sound can't turn to light, light is made up of photons and soundwaves are not. visible light that we see around us is has a frequency of about .ooo429Hz

what are u talking about, in my OGT science book it says visible light is 10,000,000,000,000,00hz so your number is off by a little bit, and just for reference, a gamma ray is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000hz.

there is something called sonoluminescense that turns sound waves into light. some nerd in my science class gave a presentation on it. i didn't listen for 2 reasons. 1 i had no idea what he was talking about. 2 he had a really bad stutter.
