hey i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on testing my HU/AMP for clipping.... i have blown sub after sub and i cant seem to figure out why.... when i first started with the subwoofer business i had no issues... than ever since i got a new HU ive been blowing subs left and right... no matter what i try it wont go away..... it there a multimeter method i can use to test for clipping? i have my AMP setup right but what about my H/U i have a KDLH 1150 H/U
well... my Amp os a Kenwood KAC 7202... umm Dual hell if i knows, CDT 1215, Infinity 1230, Pyramid(ehh who cares about that one) Rockford i dunno, Lightning audio i dunno, they all go in about a week of 2... well except for the pyramid... that one caught on fire in about 5 minutes... that was fun....
my gain is matched to my H/U and my Bass boost all the way down.. set for low frequency profile with the cutout at 150..
the duals lasted until i got a new Head Unit... after that it was all down hill
Ok, so the only REAL losses would be the Infinity and CDT subwoofers.
Might I suggest you buy cheap 12" woofers from say your local Radio Shack or Parts Express until you find the problem. At least this way while testing you're not using something that costs you $50+!
yea thats what i planed to do so i bought the pyramid..... but that didnt exactly work out.... POS!!!! i was thinking of going to wal mart and buying a lightning audio again... they are like 40$ i am moving into hu testing today... therea a car audio shop that had some cheap crap subs a week ago.. 40$ ea i might go see if they have any left... just pop one of those in and run the RCA to the Line out instead of the Sub out...
but if it is clipping shouldnt i be able to see that with a multi meter? i mean if anything i can prolly turn my PC into an Oscilloscope though.. but more work than i want to do i guess heh.
ok.. so i went out and bought the cheapest subs i could find.... clarion.. the GBU list only has their H/U on the list.. but in my opinion they sound worse than that pyramid.... i re routed the RCA'a to the line out and downed my gain by .5 Volts... if these dont blow i will be super happy.. i am guessing it's the HU though.. but now to find a cheap temp solution to reducing the rattle on my trunk.. im selling it in about 4 months for a different car so i dont wanna waste money lineing the trunk with edead or dynamat or whatnot any suggestions...
