In the next few wekks I'm going to be taking the HD plunge (buying a 70" JVC 1080P set). For the past few years, I've been getting my TV from DirecTV and use an integrated satellite receiver with TiVo. My obligation with DirecTV is done so I'm curious to hear opinions if I should renew with them and get an HD receiver/DVR or get service from Dish Network.
I have read a few blurbs that Dish has better HD content and equipment. I read on CNET about a new receiver/DVR (ViP622) that is MPEG4 compatible. Is that important?
Lastly, any thoughts on ordering directly from DISH or are there other vendors that offer better deals?

Get dish network and direct TV . Try a new FTA/ Free To Air satellite receiver. You can download software into the receivers that you would really like. Save on bills. The pansat 6000 has DVR/PVR and HD.
one disadvantage on FTA, no HDTV receiver yet. if you want HD contents, then you better subscribe either Dish or DTV.

HD Prime Time shows and major sport games (NBA, NFL) are all available over the air from CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox and WB and local broadcasting almost everywhere nowadays. You can find this info on the web. All you need a is $10-$20 little standard antenna. Have you tried this option yet to see if offering from DTV or DN is worth the money ? Please let me know too.
