4 ohm load vs. 2 ohm load

Ok, here's my situation. I just bought 2 10" mtx 8500's and an mtx T7801 amp. My problem is that the subs I bought have a 4 ohm load instead of the 2 ohm load that I meant to buy. At 4 ohms the amp doesn't put out nearly enough power. My question is should I just exchange the subs for the ones with a 2 ohm load or would there be a big enough difference in SQ and SPL to justify upgrading to an amp that will put out enough power for the 4 ohm subs?

If you are sure that you need the 2 ohm subs then just exchange them.

Otherwise post the spec sheets for the subs and amp and ill look over them quick if your not sure.

I'm sure I need 2 ohm subs for the amp I have, so I'll exchange them. Thanks for the advise.

Are those 4 ohm DVC or SVC you have?

Do you have Dual Voice coils or just one voice coil?

I found this info on the amp and says it puts out 600 watts at 1 ohm.

If those are DVC 4 ohms then they will work perfect.

The wiring options for the DVC would be 4ohms and 1ohms (at 1 ohm your amp puts out 1200 watts with 14.7 volts going to it)

the wiring options for the SVC would be 2 ohms and 8 ohms.

it doesnt even say if that is RMS or peak and a car cant produce 14.7 volts so easily.

i know, i hate companies that do that, its kinda lying to the customer or fooling them, bc they think that they are getting 1200 watts but really most of the time its 200 less....

Well the guy on ebay said the RMS was 600 watts x 1 @ 1 ohm. So if he does have the DVC 4 ohm subs he can wire them to a 1 ohm load and get 300 per sub.

that sub only comes dual 4 or single 4, use the dual 4 subs, the amp is 1ohm stable and has parrallel wiring capabilities on it. See wiring diagram for help.
