I know it heats up if I run a 4ohm stable amp at 1 ohm. But right now, I'm running my 1 ohm stable amp at 8 ohm. (it's the only sub I could get my hands on for the moment) Anyway, bad or terrible? ... or neither? THANKS!
well running the amp at a higher ohm load is usually never a problem but if you run an amp at an ohm load that is not recommended like a 2 ohm stable amp at 1 ohm then the amp will either go into protection mode, heat up while it's playing, or it could die out altogether. it depends on the amp as to which would happen just to be safe don't run it at an ohm load that the manufacturer doesn't recommend. but as far as running your 1 ohm stable amp at 8 ohm shouldn't be a problem at all.
Yea, in general, as long as you don't go UNDER what's it stable at, you're fine. Over is ok because it's more resistance so it's putting out less power. In general anyway.
