Audiophiles: Opinions about these two subs

I plan to replace my Mirage Omni 8" sub w/ either a Yamaha YST-SW315 10" 250W ($200.00 shipped) or JBL E-250P 12" 550W ($219.00 shipped). Both are within my price range and quite reasonable. Both have received great reviews from users. If you had to choose b/t these two, which would get your vote? I am leaning towards the JBL as it has more bang for the buck. The rest of my speakers are all Mirage Omni's powered by Yamaha RX-V657 receiver. Thanks.

"Both have received great reviews from users."

When was the last time you heard someone say what they own is horrible?

I'm sorry to be the one to break the news, but a $200 sub is not what "audiophiles" listen to.

Why do you want a new subwoofer? Is the one you own now a piece of junk or is there something wrong with it?

The one I have now is underpowered. It's a Mirage Omni S-8" and I need a 10 or 12, and I cannot locate another Mirage. Keep in mind that the JBL is $219 but normally retails for $400 or more. I think it is being discontinued and that's why the price has dropped. So I would not discount it as a quality sub just because the price is low.

jbl makes some of the worst subs in the market. try looking at a sub only company like velodyne, hsu, svs. for $200 you get a real junker. sorry to break the news for you. i would say minimum of $300 for a decent sub. with either the yamaha or the jbl you will just get low frequency noise. why do you have the specified budget?

OK Christopher Lee. How about this one? -
Velodyne DLS-3750R???????????????? OR Velodyne DPS-12????????? That's much better, isn't it? Now I can slug it out with the true "audiophiles," right? Jan, any comments about these s? I think I'll go for it.

C'mon Art. Now you're confusing me. Why isn't the Velodyne good enough? Convince me that the Outlaw LFM2 is better. What do you other guys think about Velodyne vs. Outlaw?

Please help me out guys! The Outlaw LFM-2 only has an 8" woofer = 150w. What about these two:
Velodyne DLS-3750R vs. Hsu Research STF-2
I am considering one of these subs to go with my system, which includes all Mirage Omni speakers (front mains, center, and rear surrounds). I can find both at a similar price point (new or used) and I'd like to know which one is superior in terms of tight, clear, crisp bass - for music and HT. The Velodyne is for sale brand new w/ full warranty for $279.00 and the Hsu is for sale used for $275 without warranty. Guys on this forum seem to prefer the Hsu, but Velodyne also makes quality subs and the room I'll use is rather small and carpeted - 12x15 feet with 8' flat ceiling. Thanks. I need some advice fast before these subs sell out.

STF-2 has a lot of fans here.
Getting a little carried away with the ? marks and a little coarse.
The best decisions are thought all the way through, and a quick call for a sale will leave you with more ?'s than before.
Check with local stores then, and be sure of return policies.
If the online guys offer a good return policy, then get what you want.
The top pieces have already been rocommended, so follow through with one of them, or something else.

Hi db-bass,
I called Tweeters and asked if they had any Omni 60's in stock and the sales guy said they had one pair at another store. I called that store and was told the speakers were brand new and just $38 each. That's because Tweeters is phasing out all Mirage speakers, so this was apparently old stock that never sold. I just happened to hit it right. The funny thing is that I bid on a USED pair of Omni 60's on eBay and was outbid at $202. These were later sold for $285!!!
If I were you, I'd give Tweeters a call and ask. If they had a pair left over in CT, maybe there will be others out there for the same price. And yesterday, I found a pair of Mirage Omni Series stands made just for these speakers at $79.00 shipped from Amazon.com. These normally sell for $180.00. I find that if you are patient and look around, great deals are available.
