I have an ad from Magnolia with the Sony for $399 and the Denon avr1705 for $249. I am slowing setting up a Home Theatre system and was wondering what you guys think of these receivers? Thanks

Well..Here's the deal. I recently just bought a Denon avr-685, which is the same as the 1705 just silver. First impressions, very weak, but has "decent" sound. I feel kind of had for buying this receiver that claims to be "high current" yet sounds only slightly better than my old crappy kenwood, and can barely push my speakers. And no for Sony in that price range, you can get much better. Your best option here, is to go with a refurb H/K from Harman Kardon's online store {they come with full warranty}. I ordered an H/K Avr-330 for $297 to replace the Denon. For $399 you can get the avr-430, which has a list price of $899. Trust me on this, it's not worth saving a few bucks to get the Denon, you will sorely regret it like me.
