New member Username: BdtreecePost Number: 1 Registered: Oct-05 | Hi, I'm trying to set up a whole house audio system in which every room will have the same source and have individual volume controls in the rooms. There are 4 rooms(3 with 2 speakers L/R and 1 with 4 L/R). The receiver I have has a dvd player in it which is helpful because I want to play cds. I don't want to get 2 units because i don't have the space to put them. The receiver has Front (L/R) Rear (L/R) and Center all outputing at 50 watts. If the Receiver is in stereo mode will it divert all power to the Front (L/R). Would there be a way to bridge the individual amps together? Or is there a better solution. I couldn't find an amp that was stereo only and had a cd player and tuner built in to it. If you know of one that would be super! Thanks for all your help |

Gold Member Username: Jan_b_vigneDallas, TX Post Number: 6382 Registered: May-04 | There are still plenty of stereo only receivers on the market and the used market is full of high quality stereo receivers. Your surround receiver has separate amplifiers for each channel of amplification and switching to stereo simply allows the front two channels to play. The power from the other channels are dormant at that point and there is no way to bridge the additional amplification channels to make more power. If you want to have all the speakers in the entire house playing at the same time, 50 watts might be marginal depending on the quality of the 50 watts, the demands you have for volume, the sensitivity of the speakers and how the system was installed (simple L-pads for volume controls will eat up wattage and cause the amplifier distress). |
