I just got a sweetheart deal on a mint NAD C740 (Under 2-Bills). Any suggestions as to which bookshelf speakers match well with the NAD. I'd like to do this on a budget, so please keep that in mind.

I have a set of Infinity Alpha 20's, any thoughts?

OK, I've never heard of this company, so I'll have to look into it. But they seem nice.

Perhaps take a look at Klipsch.

You may also want to look into PSB. They've got a long history of synergy with NAD. Now they are owned by the same parent company. I've used PSB and NAD for quite a long time and have no complaints. I have an older integrated amp that is basically the same as your receiver. It had no problems with PSB towers or bookshelves.

The best advice is to go to a local Hi-Fi store and hear as many different speakers as you can.

PSB, Triangle, Paradigm, Epos, these are all manufacturers who make good speakers in the budget range. I think that they should sound good with the NAD as well. The Epos is 4 ohm so you have to match it carefully for your listening preferences and room size. The other manufacturers all make relatively effeicient speakers with a sound that should be work well with NAD. There are many more ofcourse but these should suffice for a start.

What about Aperion for pure music consideration?

you could always give them a shot since they pay for shipping both ways, no-lose prop. But I'd definitely AB them against another speaker such as the Ascend.

Don't know how much this is worth but I remember coming across an amateur Internet-speaker shootout on another forum a few months back. Onix Rockets, Ascends, Axioms, and Aperions. The Aperions garnered praise for their handsome cabinets but not much else.
