Also, if you let the voltage drop below 11v, it'll also die. Did you accidently leave something on to drain the battery? Do you have HO alternator in your car? Playing the stereo loud at idle can also lead to battery drainage. |

Silver Member Username: RzarectorCoquitlam, Bc Canada Post Number: 684 Registered: Dec-04 | i replaced it with a yellow top... but i dont really want that under the hood .. it like to have those in the back when the system is finished |
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 4480 Registered: Nov-04 | All it takes is one bad discharge and the battery dies. That probably did it. If you do get a replacement, be careful with it this time. If you have DMM, monitor the voltage once a week or if you see something odd. Yellowtop is best with an isolator. Was 130A a stock? If so, it doesn't mean you have that much to play with. Most car manufacturers only give you 20A the most for accessories. |
Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfWisteria, Lane USA Post Number: 10601 Registered: Dec-03 | when you switched amplifiers, you inadvertantly miswired something and had a short that kept the amplifier turned on, or caused current drain on the battery. that sapped the red top below 11 volts, and that damaged cells in the battery. that'll happen with any non0deep cycle battery. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Ocala, FL USA Post Number: 1808 Registered: Aug-05 | what kind of battery should i get? Red or Yellow Top. i have a HO Alt. |
Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfWisteria, Lane USA Post Number: 10604 Registered: Dec-03 | red is a starter battery yellow is deep cycle blue is deep cycle marine application www.optimabatteries.com |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Ocala, FL USA Post Number: 1812 Registered: Aug-05 | so i will get a Red Top, b/c it will just replace my stock battery. you use the Yellow Tops for powering stuff(hence deep cycle) and the Red Top for basic battery function. Gotcha. |
Silver Member Username: FandimReno, Nevada United State... Post Number: 228 Registered: Jun-05 | Be careful even with a red top for your starter battery. When the cars running, it'll still be possible to drop your voltage below 11v. Yellow tops have worked fine for me as a starter battery.. (have one under my hood, and one in my back quarter panel.. the 24/74 model...bigger than what 'fits' my car, but in reality, it fits just fine.) |

Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 4483 Registered: Nov-04 | The problem with using Yellowtop battery as a starter is, it'll shorten it's life. You see, starter batteries have much higher number of starts, as much as 2x - 3x more than deepcycle. |

Post Number: 230 Registered: Jun-05 | Muddy, just make sure even at idle that your alternator is putting out enough power for your system, then. I destroyed a red top in a matter of weeks, (even isolated from my yellow top), with a 200 amp alternator, big 3 upgraded, etc.. (Pulling over 3kw rms). That's why I'm using a pair of yellow tops (took isolator out, as I dont play it with the car off too much anyways..more or less just got the 2nd batt for extra reserve for idling, etc.) |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Ocala, FL USA Post Number: 1831 Registered: Aug-05 | my alt puts out 220A at idle, and my setup is a total of 1,170wRMS. |
Silver Member Username: FandimReno, Nevada United State... Post Number: 237 Registered: Jun-05 | ahh...my alt dosnt kick on till 900rpm, need to adjust my idle.. (idle at 650-700ish) and I'm running a 200 amp alt, and over 3kw RMS. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Ocala, FL USA Post Number: 1839 Registered: Aug-05 | oh, SETH! i remember now. you were having cancellation issues with your W7. your profile says 105A alt. is that what it does at idle, or was that your stock one? |
Silver Member Username: FandimReno, Nevada United State... Post Number: 240 Registered: Jun-05 | yeah time to update my profile I guess, heh heh. |
Silver Member Username: RzarectorCoquitlam, Bc Canada Post Number: 686 Registered: Dec-04 | and no it isnt a stock alt... but when i was attaching the power wire to the amp i touched the allen key against the amp and it sparked a bit, dunno if that caused it or not |
